Evidence matters. So does who gets to produce it.

Kenya Ni Mimi was proud to be represented at the Evidence to Impact Symposium 2026 in Nairobi by our Executive Director and our Visuals & Animation Lead.

Our Executive Director presented the accepted abstract, "Empowering Adolescents through Digital and Civic Engagement: Lessons from Kenya Ni Mimi," highlighting why young people don't experience challenges in isolation and why youth-centred solutions must reflect the realities of mental health, civic participation, digital spaces, economic opportunity and gender justice.

Beyond the presentation, our Visuals & Animation Lead supported knowledge sharing through visual documentation, helping translate complex discussions into accessible insights that can inform action beyond the conference room.

The symposium brought together researchers, policymakers, civil society and development partners to explore how evidence can better inform policy and practice. It was a valuable reminder that meaningful change happens when research is connected to lived experience and when young people are recognised not only as participants, but as knowledge producers and solution builders.

We're grateful to the organisers and everyone who created space for youth-led perspectives to contribute to conversations shaping policy and implementation.

Because evidence only creates impact when it reaches the people and communities it is meant to serve.

Youth voices should never be collected for the sake of a report. They should shape decisions.

Kenya Ni Mimi was proud to participate in the Nairobi County Youth Pulse Fest, convened by The Youth Agenda, where young people came together to validate findings from the March 2026 KISP Shujaaz Inc. Survey and identify the issues that matter most to Nairobi's youth.

The conversations were clear: young people want more than consultation. We want accountability, meaningful participation and policies grounded in our lived realities. By interrogating the survey findings and contributing our perspectives, we helped shape the Nairobi County Youth Priority Report, ensuring youth voices translate into evidence that can influence county and national policy.

For Kenya Ni Mimi, this is what youth-led civic engagement looks like, moving beyond conversations to evidence-based advocacy that informs decision-making.

Thank you to The Youth Agenda for creating a platform where young people are not just heard, but trusted to define the agenda.

We were at the East Africa Connect networking cocktail on the sidelines of this week, hosted by MAMA HOPE, and the feedback from one attendee said it all: “It was great. It was nice to be in a room without the pressure of trying to fundraise.”

That’s rare. A space where doers, donors and ecosystem actors just show up to reconnect, to remember why they’re doing this work, to see who else is building in East Africa and how the pieces fit together. No elevator pitches. No appeals. Just people.

We got to hang with Watoto Wasome, Stand Out 4 Mental Health, Faces Up Uganda, KNESWO Feminist Initiative, Start A Library Trust, Health Alert Organization and Diversified Kenya, organisations doing the kind of work we believe in. Deep. Specific. Grounded in communities.

That’s the network we need. Not size. Coherence. People who actually know each other’s work and can say when they’re stuck and when they’re winning.

31 July 1962. Dar es Salaam. African women organised themselves before most of the continent was even free.

Pan African Women’s Day marks the founding of the Pan African Women’s Organisation, when women from across a still-colonised Africa met and decided that liberation without them was not liberation at all. They were not invited into the independence movement. They built their own table.

That history matters here, now.

In Kenya, young women are still fighting for the most basic things. To walk home safely. To be believed. To speak online without being hunted for it. To make decisions about their own bodies. To sit in the rooms where policies about their lives get written and not just be thanked for attending.

Femicide is not a headline. It’s a pattern. Gender-based violence is not a women’s issue. It’s a national failure. And a country that cannot keep its daughters safe cannot claim to be building anything at all.

So today isn’t only about remembering 1962. It’s about asking what we’re doing with what those women started.

To every young African woman organising, documenting, teaching, healing, building and refusing to be quiet, we see you. This day is yours because you’re still doing the work.

We asked young Kenyans one question: augmented or replaced?

On 18th July, young people gathered at BIEA for Career Click Dialogue #2 under Ctrl-Alt-Career to interrogate what AI actually means for youth in Kenya's informal and gig economy. Not the hype. The reality.

Here's what came out of the room.

AI is already woven into daily life. Every group named ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude as tools they use to work, learn and build. But the same young people who trust AI to boost their productivity don't trust the systems behind it when it comes to their data, their privacy and their protection.

The biggest gap? Governance. Awareness of Kenya's AI policy landscape scored low across every single group, even as comfort with AI as a tool ran high. The one thing everyone agreed on, young people need real digital and AI literacy and they need it now.

As one group put it, "They need to learn how to use it and value our data. Be selfless. Involve the public in AI policy."

This is exactly why CAC exists. We're moving young people from fear to evidence, from evidence to agency. The insights from CCD2 don't stop here. They become part of a growing youth-led evidence base on AI and informal work in Kenya, built to inform the people making the decisions.

You did everything they told you to do. Degree. Attachment. Certificate. And you're still tarmacking.

Let's be honest about why.

Today is World Youth Skills Day, and the 2026 theme "Skills for a Shared Future" names something young Kenyans have known for years, the world of work changed and nobody updated the syllabus.

The numbers say it plainly:
📉 40% of today's skillsets no longer match what the job market needs
🤖 22% of jobs will transform by 2030 due to technological disruption
😰 86% of students don't feel prepared for an AI-enabled workplace
🌍 1 in 5 young people globally are not in employment, education or training and for young women, the rate is more than double that of young men

That's not you failing. That's a system that trained you for yesterday.

Here's what the future actually asks for, technical skills, yes but also digital, AI, green, social-emotional and civic skills. Plus the human things no machine replicates, empathy, judgement, the ability to read a room and build across difference.

This is exactly why Ctrl-Alt-Career exists.
