Yesterday, our team was in Savala, Lugari Sub-County, for a critical community forum on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

Community members, Community Health Volunteers, village elders, market representatives, church representatives and CBO representatives came together in a candid and courageous dialogue that gave voice to realities many suffer in silence.

Participants painted a stark picture on the ground, defilement and r**e cases being rampant and widows continue to face rising violations of their land rights, with an overwhelming number of cases already reported across various CBO desks. These are real people. Real families. Real pain.

When it came to root causes, drug and substance abuse and deeply entrenched negative cultural beliefs emerged as the key drivers, systemic issues that demand systemic responses. Perhaps most alarming were the barriers to reporting: communities spoke of administrators who take no action and perpetrators who walk free due to lack of cooperation in apprehension. Silence is not always a choice, sometimes it is the only option left when the system fails you.

But yesterday, the community refused to stay silent. Together, clear action points were committed to documenting cases and holding stakeholder forums to track progress, intensifying GBV awareness and following up on cases already raised.

Today's civic engagement forum in Kapsambu, Mt. Elgon, was nothing short of inspiring. Hundreds of participants of all ages gathered with a hunger for knowledge that no rain season or busy farming schedule could dampen. That alone says everything.

Our team took participants through critical civic education topics including public participation, the barriers that have long hindered meaningful community involvement in Kapsambu and practical pathways to improve it. Discussions also covered the electoral cycle and an overview of the 2010 Constitution, equipping citizens with the tools and understanding they need to actively shape their own governance.

But beyond the content, what moved us most was the people. The thirst for knowledge in their questions. The hope for change visible in their eyes. This is a community awakening. This is why we do what we do.

Yesterday we went back to Kapkateny and the community showed up. Ward administrators, area chiefs, ethnic elders, the youth, women, boda boda representatives and religious leaders.

Together, they identified early conflict warning signs, mapped the hotspots and named who holds power in each one.

If 2027 is going to be different, it starts in rooms like this one.

Thank you to West TV for amplifying our story.

Yesterday, AfriNov held a powerful inter-ethnic meeting that brought together Area Assistant County Commissioners, the youth, peace committee members, chiefs, and religious leaders.

Our facilitators led participants through a deep and honest reckoning with inter-ethnic historical tensions and the early warning signs of violence, creating a space where hard truths were spoken and practical solutions were forged.

Communities identified the root causes of conflict and mapped out real, homegrown remedies for sustainable coexistence — because lasting peace must come from within.

The event was broadcasted on Namlolwe FM yesterday evening and again this morning, carrying this vital message of unity and reconciliation to thousands more across the region.
This is what community-led peacebuilding looks like. This is what we stand for. 💪🏾

It was a great meeting in Kabondo, Kasipul.

Today, we were in Onyuongo for a transformative training on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Land Rights, targeting duty bearers, the very people responsible for protecting and upholding community rights.

The session was expertly facilitated by Kisumu County Gender Officer, Madam Mary and Advocate John Mokua, covering both the institutional and legal frameworks that govern SGBV and land rights, areas that participants engaged with deeply and enthusiastically.

In attendance were Area Chiefs, Opinion Leaders, Religious Leaders and NGAO Officials, key pillars of community accountability and change.
When duty bearers are informed, communities are protected. This is what non-violent, evidence-based action looks like in practice.

AfriNov remains committed to building safer, more just communities for all.

Today we held a virtual peace campaign bringing together cross-border youth from Nyakach and Kericho, two communities that have long faced the weight of ethnic/crossborder conflict. Even though they come from different places, they share similar experiences, challenges and hopes. This Virtual Peace Dialogue was about an honest, structured conversation on the causes of conflict, the cost it places on young people and the role youth can play in turning the tide.

The insights were profound. The energy was electric. And the commitments made were real.

We see that while violence affects us all, youths also hold the greater power to transform their communities.
If what was discussed today remains constant, then the future of this region is in capable, determined hands. We cannot wait to see what these young peacebuilders will do next.

To every youth who showed up and spoke up today, thank you. The work starts with you.
