Animal Care is one of ANAW’s strategic pillars, focused on ensuring animals receive proper treatment, care, protection, and support, enabling them to live free from unnecessary suffering.

In collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Services, Kajiado County, and with support from SPANA, ANAW conducted a comprehensive donkey clinic campaign in Ewaso Kedong, Kajiado, reaching approximately 439 donkeys. The animals were vaccinated against rabies, dewormed, and administered immune boosters.

In addition, community awareness and sensitization activities were carried out across eight villages, emphasizing the importance of donkey welfare and addressing the growing threat of illegal donkey bush slaughter in the area.

Human–Animal Coexistence is a key strategic pillar of ANAW’s approach to animal welfare, ensuring that people and wildlife live together in harmony.

Last month, following reports of a stray buffalo, ANAW’s rescue team, in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service, responded swiftly to safely capture and translocate the animal to Hell's Gate National Park.

This successful intervention highlights the importance of timely action and strong partnerships in preventing human–wildlife conflict while safeguarding animal welfare.

During the Easter season, ANAW with the support of Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE), engaged key stakeholders across the chicken value chain in Nakuru County to promote improved chicken welfare standards.

The engagement focused on promoting best practices in disease prevention and health management, ensuring appropriate stocking densities, enhancing biosecurity and biosafety measures, improving housing design and conditions, optimizing nutrition, and advocating for humane handling during transportation and slaughter.

Stronger practices mean healthier animals, safer food systems, and more sustainable livelihoods.

Did you know?
Every snare lifted is atleast 10 animals lives spared.

ANAW in collaboration with KWS rescued a giraffe at Kedong Ranch that had a snare on its left front foot, that had cut deep causing visible injuries and difficulty in movement. Snaring and bush meat poaching is a major threat to wildlife. ANAW’s partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service rescues and treatment interventions are essential to reduce animal suffering and improve survival chances.

Protecting lives, one vaccination at a time.

As part of our ongoing anti-rabies campaign, Africa Network for Animal Welfare (ANAW), in collaboration with Machakos County Veterinary Services and with the support of QATO, is carrying out a mass vaccination drive in Kivaa Ward, Machakos County. The 8-day campaign targets over 3,000 dogs and cats, helping safeguard both animals and communities.

Rabies is a deadly but preventable disease that affects both animals and humans. Once symptoms appear, it is almost always fatal. Vaccination is the most effective way to stop the spread of rabies and achieving a rabies free future.

Together, we can protect lives, promote responsible pet care, and build safer communities.
