A Cry for Help: Joyce Bendera’s Journey of Pain, Courage, and Hope
In Bombolulu, Mombasa County, Joyce Bendera a devoted mother of three is courageously battling a painful and life-altering condition.
Joyce’s journey began in 1993 when, as a young girl, she developed a tumour on her cheek. She underwent a successful surgery that restored her health and gave her a new lease on life. For many years, she lived a normal and hopeful life until 2023, when the tumour returned.
This time, it came with devastating force.
As the tumour grew, it brought not only intense physical pain but also deep emotional suffering. Joyce began to face rejection and isolation from society. The stigma surrounding her condition became unbearable. In the midst of her struggle, her husband abandoned her and their children, leaving her to face this battle alone.
Unable to work due to the pain and her condition, Joyce can no longer provide for her family. Today, they struggle to survive, often going to bed hungry. The harsh words, stares, and discrimination from the community have only deepened her wounds—making stigma one of the hardest battles she fights every day.
At her lowest point, overwhelmed by pain and hopelessness, Joyce almost gave up on life.
But even in her darkest moment, a light remained.
The love of her children and her unwavering faith gave her the strength to rise again. Through prayers and resilience, Joyce has chosen to hold on to hope, to healing, and to the dream of rebuilding her life.
Today, she is not just fighting for her life she is fighting for her children’s future.
