Another important conversation from the recently held Town Hall Meeting under the Our Tea Our Voice (OTOV) project was the engagement with Dr. Mercy Motanya, Chief Officer for Public Service Management, Nyamira County.
Dr. Motanya took time to explain some of the services offered through the county government and encouraged community members, especially women and young people, to take advantage of opportunities available through public participation and government tendering processes.
One issue that stood out during the discussion was the challenge many young people face after being awarded tenders. While opportunities exist, some youth struggle to raise the funds needed to implement them and end up selling awarded tenders to older and financially stable individuals. This sparked an open conversation on how young people can be better supported to benefit meaningfully from such opportunities.
The session was interactive, with participants asking questions, seeking clarification, and sharing concerns about access to opportunities and services. The conversation reminded us that inclusion is not only about creating opportunities, but also about making sure people are able to benefit from them in practical ways.

One of the important conversations during the Our Tea Our Voice (OTOV) Town Hall Meeting on May 27th 2026 at the Borabu DCC Hall was the engagement with the Deputy County Commissioner, Masaba North Sub-county, Ms. Stella Wanyela together with the Assistant County Commissioner, Mekenene, Mr. Ekaare Simon who represented the DCC Borabu Sub-county.
The session created space for honest discussion between government leadership and community members on issues affecting daily life. Participants openly raised concerns around cattle theft in border areas, theft of electric wires and cables, corruption, insecurity, and other challenges affecting families and livelihoods.
The discussion also went beyond security concerns. There was reflection on citizen participation, accountability, peaceful coexistence, and the role communities can play in working together with government institutions to solve problems instead of waiting for solutions from one side only.
What stood out most was the openness of the conversation. Community members asked difficult questions, shared lived experiences, and leaders listened and responded. It was a reminder that meaningful engagement begins when institutions and citizens sit together and speak honestly about the issues affecting them.

Yesterday, we successfully held a Town Hall Meeting under the Our Tea Our Voice (OTOV) Project at CDF Hall, Nyansiongo, bringing together community members, public institutions, and tea sector leadership for meaningful dialogue on inclusive leadership, accountability, and participation in decision-making.

The forum provided an important platform for engagement between the community and key institutions on matters affecting women, youth, governance, public participation, access to services, and leadership within the tea sector.

We sincerely thank all participants, women, youth, tea farmers, community members, leaders, and partners for making the day a success through open dialogue and active participation.

On 16th April 2026, the CIFCAD and ETP Kenya team together with the ETP UK team held a session with the Women and Youth monitors. The monitors play an important role of monitoring the impact created by Our Tea Our Voice Project. Indeed, progress has been made and the community should now play a role in sustaining the momentum. The monitors also shared experiences in the field and made recommendations for future work.

The CIFCAD team and the ETP Kenya team was delighted to host the ETP UK team between 13th to 17th April 2026 in Nyansiongo, Nyamira County, Kenya.
On 14th, the teams had the pleasure to visit and interact with a section of group representatives who have undergone the Husika leadership curriculum training besides attending a number of community dialogues. This is part of the activities being conducted under the Our Tea Our Voice project in Kenya.
The success stories shared during the interactions shed light on the positive impact that targeted community interventions can bring to a society. The team also discussed on the challenges, and future programming priorities for the region.
