Cifcad Kenya held a civic education workshop, training the young people of Othaya- Gitugi Catchment on good governance and accountability.
One of our main objectives in Our Tea Our Voice is to ensure ACCOUNTABLE, Transformative and inclusive leadership. We brought the young people together for forums where they were enlightened, asked questions that were answered and gave an action plan for the same.
Many thanks to Nyeri Youth Sector Working Group for agreeing to be part of the training, Wambui Zuena and Nelson WA Chapter Six for ensuring that the young people remain educated.
An informed youth is a powerful youth👊.

“We understand politics, but there is a huge gap in understanding governance.”

This hit home. Many young people know political aspirants, follow campaigns, and celebrate leaders based on popularity. We know the faces and the slogans.

But governance goes deeper: understanding how the county budget is made, which policies actually work for youth, and how to advocate and engage decision-makers beyond elections.

Thank you Nelson WA Chapter Six for the thought-provoking reflections that sparked curiosity and pushed young people to want to learn more about governance.

Today was about turning information into power and participation.

With support from members of the Nyeri Youth Sector Working Group, Nelson wa chapter six and Ms. Wambui Zuena, members of the Mizizi Youth Network took time to unpack the county budget-making process and understand where and how young people can meaningfully engage through public participation at different stages.

Beyond learning, the youth went a step further. In groups, they reviewed six key sections of the Nyeri County Youth Policy, reflected on what works and what doesn’t, and shared thoughtful recommendations on how the policy can be strengthened — prioritizing the issues that matter most to them.

As we head into the public participation season, the message is clear: youth voices belong in decision-making spaces.
Show up. Speak up. Engage. The budget and policies shaping our future should reflect our realities.
