As we celebrate this blessed Christmas season, We extend our warmest greetings and best wishes for a blessed merry Christmas Happy New Year to tea farmers, women in the tea value chain and all who support the tea industry.

This festive season reminds us of the importance of unity, peace, and cooperation. Women remain at the heart of the tea value chain and together with tea farmers and stakeholders, we continue to strengthen livelihoods, promote sustainability and grow a resilient tea sector.

The event was graced by Assistant County Commissioner William Tanui, area Chiefs and community stakeholders..

Key speakers; drug-addict specialists Pastor Stone, Francis Ta**us with Wilson Tanui Kipyegon raises awareness on the harmful health and social effects of drug misuse while encouraging safer lifestyle choices..

Women in Tea Value Chain Association (WITEVA) joined the Bomet County Government, civil society groups, community leaders, and residents for the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). This year’s campaign focused on Ending Digital Violence Against Women and Girls, highlighting efforts to combat harmful online abuse.

The launch, held at the Bomet Police Station grounds, was officially inaugurated by Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok,EGH.The event featured a vibrant procession through Bomet Town, engaging the community and raising awareness about the urgent need to address all forms of SGBV.

WITEVA remarks emphasized the importance of collaborative, community-driven strategies to prevent online bullying and cybercrime targeting women. She also highlighted ongoing empowerment programs designed to support survivors and foster a safer, more inclusive environment for women and girls..

The event aligns Bomet County with the global movement to end gender-based violence, demonstrating solidarity with communities worldwide committed to ensuring safety, dignity, and justice for all women, girls, and children.

The launch drew national leaders, including Dr. Samwel Masese, Mr. Gilbert Biwott, Hon. Dr. Tecla Tum, Prof. King’ara, S. W. Soila, Esther Boke, and Isaac Kimwele, who all expressed their commitment to supporting continued community efforts to combat SGBV. Their presence reinforced the importance of solidarity in the fight against gender-based violence.

Yesterday, the Women in Tea Value Chain Association (WITEVA) successfully trained 30 Men of Change in Tumoiyot, Bomet County on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response.

The session equipped the men with essential knowledge and practical skills to challenge harmful norms, promote respect and champion positive masculinity within their homes and communities. Engaging men as allies is a powerful step toward ending GBV and fostering safer, more equitable spaces for all.

WITEVA remains committed to strengthening communities across the tea value chain and driving lasting change.

Together, we stand for a future free from violence and discrimination.

Beatrice Tonui, Chairperson of WITEVA, emphasized the association’s commitment to safeguarding the tea sector by spearheading the fight against sexual harassment, gender-based violence and other injustices that undermine the dignity and sustainability of the tea sector. She urged farmers not to uproot their tea bushes, reminding them that tea is their livelihood. She further noted that challenges can be overcome through proper procedures from plucking to factory level, alongside leaders uniting in support of the tea farmer.
