Our Aqua Hope project envisions a Siaya County where women are leaders in the blue economy, contributing not only to food security but also to healthier families and resilient communities. The project aims to expand beyond Siaya to other counties bordering Lake Victoria, such as Busia, Homa Bay, and Migori.
Future plans include:
1. Establishing a Women in Aquaculture Academy
2. Developing value-added fish products (e.g., smoked and filleted tilapia)
3. Integrating youth in fish feed production and logistics
4. Advocating for gender-inclusive policies in the aquaculture sector

Aqua Hope is more than a fish farming project. it is a movement for dignity, empowerment, and resilience. By tackling the economic roots of transactional s*x and providing sustainable alternatives, GCBC is helping women in Siaya reclaim their agency, protect their health, and build a brighter future for their families. The project's blend of aquaculture, financial inclusion, and market systems development offers a replicable model for other communities facing similar challenges across East Africa and beyond.

Backed by the Global Resilience Partnership and local partnerships, Aqua Hope continues to prove that when women are equipped with the right tools and opportunities, they can transform not just their own lives but entire communities.

In Kajiado County, where many women and girls face the risk of early marriage and female ge***al mutilation, the Global Capacity Building Center is offering a powerful alternative through the Farms of Freedom Project.

In communities where harmful cultural practices threaten the future of girls, the project is restoring dignity by equipping women with sustainable livelihood skills that allow them to take control of their lives. We work with women who are at risk or survivors of such practices and organize them into Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), providing them a platform to save, access small loans, and support one another. From there, they receive hands-on training in climate-smart agriculture, including good agronomic practices, organic fertilizer production, crop-livestock integration, briquette making, and poultry farming. What was once idle land is now turned into productive farms that feed families and generate income.

Beyond agriculture, the project provides timely weather advisory using the Sprout platform, and offers financial and agribusiness literacy to help women make informed decisions and become resilient. Many of these women, once voiceless in their communities, are now role models and decision-makers, proving that empowered women can transform entire households and villages.

Farms of Freedom is not only increasing food security and climate resilience, but also giving women the strength to walk away from cycles of silence and oppression. As the project grows, more women are joining, earning, leading, and inspiring others. It’s not just about farming it’s about freedom, choice, and rewriting the future for women in Kajiado, one harvest at a time.

🚨 This is how our resilient women in Siaya County are currently drying omena... under the scorching sun, battling dust, contamination, and time.
At Global Capacity Building Center (GCBC) in partnership with Classic Foods Global, we believe our women deserve better. That’s why we’re on a mission to transform this outdated process into a modern, efficient, and dignified system.
🌞 Imagine this: Every beach in Siaya County equipped with a mega solar-powered dryer – hygienic, efficient, and sustainable.
βœ… No more food waste.
βœ… No more income loss.
βœ… More time, more savings, and more opportunities for women in the aquaculture value chain.
But we can't do it alone.
🀝 We're calling on partners, donors, innovators, and changemakers to join us.
Together, we can rewrite this narrative and empower women to thrive in a clean, green, and profitable aquaculture sector.
