Every small step matters!👣

Therapeutic exercises. Proper positioning. Standing aids. Prosthetics. These aren't just tools, they're pathways to independence.

When learners with muscle weakness receive thoughtful physiotherapy support, they gain strength, confidence, and capability. They learn what their bodies can do.

Building brighter futures, one session at a time.💙

Back from the April recess, our intermediate learners were excited to begin the new term with a fun numeracy activity focused on counting objects.💛

The lesson began with a quick recap on number recognition before learners actively engaged in counting objects, matching quantities to numbers, and simple sorting activities using concrete materials like beans and pegs.

The hands-on approach made learning enjoyable, encouraged participation, and helped learners understand concepts more easily. Along the way, they also built concentration, turn-taking, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills.

It was wonderful to see the learners learning confidently, interacting with one another, and enjoying every moment of the activity.

What a wonderful Wednesday!🌟

The Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi, was truly honoured to welcome delegates from the conference at the Kenya Institute of Special Education on Wednesday, 12th April.

The conference, themed 'A Holistic Approach towards Care, Inclusion and Empowerment', brought together passionate voices committed to championing the rights and well-being of children with disabilities, and we are proud to be part of that journey.

This meaningful gathering was organised by Misean Cara and Edmund Rice Development, and stands as a powerful testament to what collaboration can achieve.

A heartfelt thank you to Edmund Rice Development, Edmund Rice Foundation, Misean Cara, and the Congregation of Christian Brothers for your continuous, unwavering support and partnership. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

We look forward to many more chapters of this incredible partnership!💛

Golden, crispy, and made with pride ✨

It started with the basics; measuring, mixing, and learning the feel of the dough. Day by day, our learners kept showing up, practicing with patience, improving with every attempt.

Now, the results speak for themselves. During our catering class, they confidently prepared these delicious mandazis from start to finish, shaping, frying, and working together with growing skill and ease.

Behind every piece is a story of effort, teamwork, and quiet confidence rising, proof that with consistency, learning truly becomes something you can taste.😋

Golden, crispy, and full of flavor! 🐟🔥

Our learners recently took part in a hands-on catering session where they prepared and fried these delicious fish under the guidance of Tr. Phylis. From cleaning and preparing the fish to seasoning and frying them to perfection, the learners were actively involved in every step of the process.

Beyond cooking, this activity helps them build practical life skills, confidence, teamwork, and pre-vocational experience that prepares them for greater independence in the future. And as you can see… the results are simply mouth-watering!😋

Now you can enjoy this delicious fish while supporting a meaningful cause.

In preparation for the pre-vocational class, our Intermediate Class learners creatively explored urban farming.

They took part in a hands-on activity that involved shaving sheep’s wool and using it in art. By sticking the wool onto paper and carefully using scissors, the learners practiced fine motor skills, strengthened hand–eye coordination, and improved finger control. Handling the soft wool also helped them explore different textures, enhancing their tactile sensory skills.

Activities like these combine creativity and practical learning, helping our learners build important skills for the future.

A Journey Towards Independence

In our Sensory Class, one learner with cerebral palsy has been quietly achieving remarkable milestones on her journey towards independence.

Her condition, characterized by stiffness and weakness mainly affecting her lower limbs, once made everyday tasks challenging. But through consistent support; including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and specialized education, she has continued to grow stronger and more confident each day.

Today, the progress is inspiring. She can now manage many of her daily activities independently. Her sitting posture has improved, and she is able to feed herself with greater ease. One of her most meaningful milestones has been toileting independently, even recognizing which restroom is for ladies and confidently using it on her own.

In class, she actively participates in activities she enjoys, such as tearing paper, coloring, building towers, and watching her favorite songs and educational cartoons. These moments may seem small, but each one represents determination, patience, and growth.

Her journey is a beautiful reminder that progress comes step by step. While we celebrate how far she has come, we continue walking alongside her as she builds even greater independence.

This is what hope in action looks like!

Last week, our Centre felt a little lighter and more hopeful 💙

We were honored to host a consultant orthopedic technician who worked closely with 12 of our learners, carefully assessing their needs and supporting the fabrication of assistive devices to improve comfort, mobility, and independence.

Moments like these remind us how the right support can transform a child’s daily life. Together, we continue enabling ability and restoring hope.

After months of learning, practice, and patience, a proud milestone was reached✂️✨
Our hairdressing learners welcomed their very first client from outside the Centre — a caregiver who trusted them with her look.

With steady hands and growing confidence, they put their hard-earned skills to work, turning training into real service. Smiles were exchanged, confidence grew, and the session ended with a happy, satisfied client💇🏽‍♀️😊

This wasn’t just about braiding hair. It was a moment of belief, progress, and proof that skills truly open doors.
