Last week, John , our secretary at One Chance Fund, reached out to some of our students in our scholarship program. With the ongoing rains, he wanted to make sure they were safe. It was heartbreaking to hear that many of them, living in the Kibera slums, were hit hard by the ongoing floods. Homes were washed away, properties destroyed and they're struggling to find food and other essentials.
As an NGO, we're like a family, and when one of our own is in need, we rally together. So, we turned to WhatsApp for help, and the response was truly heartwarming. Our initial goal was to raise Ksh. 80,000 ( $600 ) - to provide food for 20 of the most affected students in the next three weeks. MET has announced the rain will reduce by mid May. I'm thrilled to say we've already raised Ksh. 44,500 ( $330 ) ! That leaves us with Ksh. 35,500 or $270 to go.
We understand times are tough for everyone, but if you have a little extra to spare, it could mean the world to these students. Just Ksh. 35,500 more will help us reach our target, and we can make sure these families have food for the next three weeks.
