To climax the mentorship session ✨ all the 170+ girls gathered in the hall for the three keynote speeches and our Team Lead Kyle James gave the closing remarks.

He insisted that at Spread A Smile Organization , our mission has always been simple, yet powerful—to restore dignity, spark hope, and create opportunities where they are most needed. Through our , we are not only handing out sanitary towels—we are handing out courage, confidence, and care. We are telling every girl in this room, “You matter. Your health matters. Your dreams matter.”

Furthermore, he took the opportunity to appreciate our incredible facilitators who showed up with heart and wisdom. The partners, Edulight International and The Coffee Ministry—thanked them for believing in the cause and walking this journey with us. Their support helped turn our vision into a real, life-changing experience.

The Purple Tag group, composed of girls aged 16 years and above, engaged in a deeply practical and empowering session focused on comprehensive menstrual health management and overall well-being.

Recognizing that many in this group are in the later stages of adolescence—and some preparing to transition into adulthood—the session was intentionally designed to go beyond the basics. It focused on providing accurate, actionable knowledge that every young woman needs to care for her body with confidence and dignity.

Key topics included:

Proper use of sanitary pads: how to wear, change, and dispose of them safely and hygienically

Menstrual hygiene practices: maintaining cleanliness during menstruation to prevent infections

Nutrition during menstruation: foods that support hormonal balance and alleviate menstrual discomfort

Self-care and body awareness: understanding the menstrual cycle and embracing it as a natural, powerful part of womanhood

Thanks to our facilitators Esther Mulandi and Mercylinne Monari

Empowering the Middle Teens: Confidence and Self Esteem!

The Blue Tag group, comprising girls aged 14 to 16 years, participated in an engaging and highly interactive session that focused on self-confidence and self esteem!

At this stage of adolescence, many girls face internal and external pressures that can impact their self-esteem and decision-making. To meet them where they are, this session was curated to build trust, spark conversation, and equip them with the tools they need to navigate their teenage years with clarity and confidence.

Special appreciation to our able facilitators who handled this well; Juma Lynet and Margaret Waceke

Following the opening ceremony, the girls were thoughtfully grouped into three categories based on their age to ensure that each session was tailored to their specific developmental needs:

Green Tags: Ages 11–13

Blue Tags: Ages 14–16

Purple Tags: Ages 16 and above

The Green Tag group, comprising the youngest participants aged 11 to 13 years, included several girls who were experiencing menstruation for the very first time. This was a particularly sensitive and formative session, carefully facilitated by Sharleen Mutheu and Trizah Mudhonie.

With grace, authenticity, and compassion, our facilitators created a safe and open space where the girls could learn about menstrual health, ask questions freely, and feel reassured in their experiences. Acting as nurturing "big sisters," they shared personal insights and emphasized that menstruation is a completely normal and healthy part of growing up.

This session was not only informative but also deeply affirming, helping the girls feel seen, supported, and confident as they navigate this new phase of life.

170+ Girls • One Purpose • Lasting Impact

On April 11th, we had the privilege of visiting YMCA Primary School in Laini Saba for our as Spread A Smile Organization

It was a meaningful day of engagement, mentorship, and empowerment. We spent time inspiring the girls to embrace their full potential and donated sanitary towels to each one of them. We firmly believe that when a girl is empowered, an entire community thrives.

Period poverty remains a pressing challenge, particularly in underserved communities. Yet, we remain hopeful—through collaboration and collective effort, we can overcome it.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners for walking this journey with us:

Edulight International
The Coffee Ministry
We look forward to more impactful collaborations ahead.

Great things happen when great minds come together " this is a quote that sits well with me when it comes to partnerships and collaborations! I strongly believe they are catalysts of impact!

Goal alignment, clearly defined roles and responsibilities, resource sharing and formalized agreements are some of the things to consider before venturing into any partnership especially organizations.

With this regard as Spread A Smile Organization we are delighted to announce our partnership with Edulight International and The Coffee Ministry for a pads drive happening on the 11th of April. It's a pleasure to be a blessing to the 300 girls at Kibra, Laini Saba ward!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
In case any clarifications reach out.
