The Week That Was — October 1, 2025
We joined the world in celebrating the International Day of Older Persons, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges and opportunities of ageing. The celebration honored the invaluable contributions of older persons to society while emphasizing the importance of dignity, independence, and inclusion in later life.
A highlight of the day was an exciting football tournament featuring East African legends such as Kenya’s own John ‘Bobby’ Ogolla (67) and Josephat Murila (71)—true icons who reminded us that passion and talent know no age. The energy extended beyond the legends’ match as grannies aged 50 and above took to the field, spreading joy and proving that active ageing can be fun and inspiring.
Meanwhile, at Karika CBO, older persons spent the day engaging with legal professionals who offered free consultations and assistance on various legal matters, ensuring that access to justice remains within reach for all generations.
