🌲✨ Did you know the UK is now a land of giants? ✨🌲
There are around 500,000 redwood and giant sequoia trees growing across the UK today. That is more than the approximately 80,000 giant sequoias left in California, their original home!
These trees were first brought here in the Victorian era, when planting a sequoia on your estate was the ultimate symbol of wealth and prestige. Over 160 years later, they have become part of our landscape, standing tall in parks, avenues and woodlands across the country.
It is incredible to think that the world’s largest trees, once symbols of status, are now some of the UK’s most unexpected guardians of biodiversity and carbon storage.
Next time you pass one of these towering giants, remember—you are walking among living history.
