What happens when twelve educators decide to change how their communities talk about menstruation?

Across Kisii, Nyamira, and Bomet counties in Kenya, a team of menstrual health educators is working with Days for Girls to help girls and women understand their bodies, manage their periods with dignity, and stay confident in school and at work.

Together, they are leading education sessions, supporting teachers and families, and helping ensure girls and women have access to washable menstrual products. On a larger scale, they are helping replace silence and stigma with knowledge and support.

This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the educators who are helping create classrooms and communities where girls feel informed, supported, and empowered.

Happy International Women’s Day!

This past week, we shared stories from leaders across our movement:
- A college advocate who turned a moment of crisis into lasting change.
- Volunteers and educators bringing menstrual health education to their communities.
- Students finding the confidence to speak openly about their periods.

Meaningful change often begins with one person choosing to take action.

Today, we celebrate every woman helping move this mission forward!

INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

Today, we pause to remember a simple truth: every girl and woman deserves dignity even in the most private moments of her life.
Menstrual health is not a luxury. It is a human right.

Across Kenya, so many girls still struggle through their periods with limited products, silence, shame, or missed school days. These are not just challenges of access they are reminders of how easily a girl’s confidence, safety, and sense of worth can be shaken.

On this day, we honor the countless individuals who refuse to let stigma define a girl’s future : the teachers who create safe spaces, the health workers who listen, the community leaders who speak out, the mentsrual Health educators who provide Education/Information, the boys and men who choose to stand with girls, and the girls themselves who continue to show courage and resilience every month.

Their efforts remind us of the Kenya we are working toward:
✔ A Kenya where every girl can manage her period without fear or embarrassment.
✔ A Kenya where products and information are accessible to all.
✔ A Kenya where periods do not interrupt education, dreams, or dignity.
✔ A Kenya where menstrual health is recognized as a human right — because it is.

Today and every day, we stand for dignity, equality, and the right of every girl to thrive.

Happy International Human Rights Day.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our donor, The Starbucks Foundation, for making the EmpowerHer Project possible ,a project reaching tea and coffee-growing communities in Kenya with menstrual health education and dignity. 💛

Through this initiative, and during the celebrations in Chapalungu Ward, Bomet County, we were proud to dignify 300 girls with Days for Girls washable pads and comprehensive menstrual health education.

Your support is helping us ensure that every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive with confidence and dignity.

What an honor! This past month we hosted a powerful documentary filming in Nakuru, Kisii, Nyamira, Nairobi, and Bomet, capturing the impact of our work and the voices of students, teachers, parents, county leaders, and our own DfG Kenya team.

From the tea plantations of Kisii & Nyamira to the bustling streets of Njiru, we shared the journey of the DfG pad from raw material to restoring dignity and opportunity for girls.

We were proud to welcome the Days for Girls International team and work alongside an award-winning filmmaker who brought these stories to life.

We can’t wait for the world to see how together we are turning periods into pathways. Stay tuned!

As schools took a break for the August holidays, we at Days for Girls Kenya shifted our focus to the heart of our communities in Kisii, Nyamira, and Bomet ,delivering the EmpowerHer Project through powerful community sessions.

With the incredible support of local administration, we saw the power of community centered approach in action. Over 850 women and 90+ men were empowered with comprehensive menstrual health education and received DfG washable kits - tools that provide dignity, sustainability, and confidence.

One of the most inspiring outcomes was the involvement of men, who not only participated but went back to share this life changing knowledge within their communities.

As schools resume this week, this reflection reminds us of the mission and vision of Days for Girls - to see a world where every girl, everywhere, has access to menstrual products and menstrual health education so she can reach her full potential.

It's an honor to hear the immediate impact of this work , stories of girls and women already experiencing greater confidence, improved health, and restored dignity.
