EPILEPSY IS NOT A CURSE OR PUNISHMENT FROM GOD

Epilepsy has long carried the stigma of being a ‘curse from the Gods’ in many parts of the world. It has largely been a misunderstood condition, with people resorting to all manner of practices to control or prevent episodes. Most of these practices are based on ill founded beliefs, myths and fears.Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects the brainIn about 10% of the people with epilepsy, there may be no known cause, but the rest may have some contributing factor. Some of the known causes of epilepsy are genetic tendency or family history of epilepsy, brain abnormalities, head injury, congenital brain damage, brain infections and developmental disorders such as autism. The risk of epilepsy increases if you have stroke or vascular disease or dementia,So its clear seizures are just a medical condition with a known cause, mostly EPILEPSY.....

Major Causes of Epilepsy:

1)Structural Causes:-
This is the most common cause, where an MRI reveals visible damage to the brain, including brain tumors, strokes, or traumatic brain injuries from accidents.

2)Genetic Factors:-
Inherited genes can increase susceptibility to epilepsy, with some types passed down directly through families.

3)Infections:-
Infections of the central nervous system, such as meningitis, encephalitis, and HIV, can cause epilepsy.
4)Developmental Disorders:-
Conditions present at birth or that occur during development, such as autism or other brain abnormalities (e.g., focal cortical dysplasia, tuberous sclerosis), are frequent causes.
5)Metabolic Disorders:-
Problems with how the body processes energy, leading to abnormal brain function, can lead to seizures.
6)Immune System Issues:-
Immune system disorders can cause inflammation in the brain (autoimmune encephalitis), triggering seizures.
Prenatal/Birth Injury: Brain damage occurring before or during birth, such as oxygen deprivation, infection, or low birth weight, can lead to epilepsy.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease affecting millions worldwide. It is often clouded by misinformation, fear, and stigma. These problems not only alienate people living with epilepsy but also cause delays in diagnosis and treatment.

Seizures or Fits occur when there are excessive electrical discharges in the brain, leading to various symptoms. When the brain tends to produce recurrent unprovoked seizures, it is called epilepsy.

The symptoms of Epilepsy can range from stiffening/ jerking of limbs with tongue biting to mild staring spells, which can be mistaken for inattentiveness.

Seizures can occur due to metabolic issues ( low sodium, calcium, blood sugar increased urea), genetic factors and irritation of brain due to any cause like a bleed, tumour or any lesion in the brain.

Almost 70% of epilepsy cases are medically treatable. The remaining 30% do not respond to medications and are termed drug-refractory epilepsy. For these individuals, surgical therapies now offer a safe and effective cure. Dietary treatments such as the ketogenic diet may help in certain types of epilepsy. The

diagnosis of epilepsy starts with a detailed medical history and clinical assessment. Video Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a simple and painless test that tells us about the electrical activity of brain. We may need blood investigation, imaging with CT or MRI of brain to aid in diagnosis.

Epilepsy can be very well managed with the right medications, a good lifestyle and strong support systems.

Epilepsy is not a curse; it is a medical issue that requires our understanding, care, and informed action.

As a society, people living with epilepsy should be seen not for their disease but for their talents, strengths, and contributions.

Lets go to class kidogo my guys.....

What is Epilepsy???
Its a chronic brain disorder characterized by recurrent seizures, which are sudden, uncontrolled bursts of electrical activity in the brain, causing temporary disruptions in normal brain function, leading to changes in awareness, sensation, movement, or behavior, with symptoms ranging from brief staring spells to severe convulsions, and is diagnosed after two or more unprovoked seizures occur......

In shadows deep, where whispers lie,
A silent war beneath the sky.
A spark within the brain's domain,
Misunderstood, with silent pain [1].

The world looks on with narrowed eyes,
A fearful gaze that paralyzes.
For in the fit, they see a flaw,
A broken rule, against their law.

They shrink away, in fear and doubt,
Of what the tongue cannot speak out.
The stigma builds a wall so high,
Where truth and understanding die [1].

But know this truth, in hearts so bright,
Epilepsy is no moral slight.
It's just a storm within the mind,
A human state, of every kind.

So let us break the chains of shame,
And speak with light, not fearful blame.
With open hearts, let kindness flow,
And watch the seeds of knowledge grow.

SLEEP SPARKLES

The day is gone and i lie
Dreaming on a lullaby,

I close mybeyes but when i sleep, electric bolts begin to weep,

Shooting sparks on through my brain, makes me lolm like i'm insane

I thrash,i shake,i ekll around
Hoping im on a stable ground

My eyes, they look into my head,
Checking that my brain is not dead

My arms, they reach but cannot touch,
The safety that they crave so much

A moisture forms upon my lips,
And shivers through my fingertips

These open eyes that were so wide,
Closing now the spark is dead
