♻️ Exchange Learning Visit – Pwani Fish Farm, Mtwapa 🐛🌱

Today, 25/06/2026, we conducted an exchange learning visit to Pwani Fish Farm following the ROPP trainings for our first cohort, supported by COFAD.

The visit provided participants with practical exposure to organic waste value addition through the use of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology. Participants gained firsthand experience in transforming organic waste into valuable products, including BSF larvae for animal feed and organic fertilizers (both solid and liquid).

The exchange enhanced participants' understanding of the BSF production process, organic waste handling, and the business opportunities within sustainable waste management. Most importantly, it demonstrated how circular economy solutions can turn waste into valuable resources while creating economic and environmental benefits.

Together, we continue promoting innovative approaches to waste management and building a more sustainable future. 🌍♻️🌱

Today, I had the opportunity to attend and actively participate in a stakeholder discussion panel at Sote Hub, Nyali, reviewing the draft Mombasa County Solid Waste Management Master Plan (2026–2040).

The forum brought together key stakeholders, including County Government representatives, waste management actors, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss practical solutions for sustainable solid waste management in Mombasa County.

During the session, we reviewed the draft plan, provided constructive feedback, and proposed several recommendations and corrections that will be shared with the County Government to strengthen the final document.

The Master Plan is a significant step towards addressing challenges associated with rapid urbanization, increasing waste generation, environmental conservation, public health, and the promotion of a circular economy. It also supports the vision of building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Mombasa for current and future generations.

Special appreciation to the County Government of Mombasa, JICA, Sote Hub, VSO, PCEA, and all stakeholders whose commitment and collaboration continue to drive sustainable waste management solutions.

We successfully conducted training at Jomvu on 05/03/2026 and Likoni LICODEP Hall on 06/03/2026 together with my colleague from Kipevu waste managers. The session began with business skills training focusing on cash management and profits, helping participants understand how to better manage their businesses and increase sustainability.

We then moved into waste management and circular economy practices, encouraging responsible waste handling and showing how waste can create new economic opportunities within the community.

This activity is part of the Pwani Circular Economy project by PCEA, implemented by COFAD with support from GIZ.

We are truly grateful to everyone who attended, participated, and supported the training. Your engagement and commitment to learning and improving our communities is highly appreciated. Together we continue building sustainable livelihoods and a cleaner environment. 🌱♻️
