We recently conducted an inspiring session with young individuals, aimed at equipping them with vital information about opportunities, skills development, and employment pathways, all designed to foster economic empowerment.

During this engaging event, participants were introduced to the Ajira Digital program, which offers free digital skills training, mentorship, and potential online job opportunities. Our mission is clear: with access to the right information, skills, and support, young people can pave the way for brighter futures for themselves and their communities.

This week, Reachout Centre Trust took our message directly to the community through outreach activities focused on creating awareness, sharing knowledge, listening to community concerns, and encouraging healthier choices.
Through meaningful conversations and engagement, we connected with community members on drug and substance abuse prevention, HIV awareness, harm reduction, and the importance of building stronger and healthier communities.
Every conversation is an opportunity to create awareness, inspire change, and give hope. Together, we can continue reaching more people, strengthening communities, and creating a future where prevention comes first and every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Recovery is more than breaking free from drugs it is about rebuilding lives, restoring dignity and creating opportunities for a brighter future.
At Reachout Centre Trust, women in recovery are gaining practical livelihood skills that empower them to become financially independent and reduce the risk of relapse. Through our women's empowerment programme, participants have been trained in weaving high-quality doormats, carpets and handcrafted floor mats used in homes and vehicles.
Each mat tells a story of resilience, determination and hope. What was once a journey marked by addiction is now being transformed into one of entrepreneurship, self-reliance and renewed purpose.
These women are not only learning a craft they are building businesses, earning an income and proving that recovery can open doors to lasting change when communities invest in support instead of stigma.
Every product they create reflects the power of second chances and the importance of equipping women with skills that enable them to provide for themselves and their families.
Together, we can continue creating opportunities that help women recover, thrive and inspire others that change is possible.

Kijana Salama had the opportunity to join fellow young people in Likoni during a tournament celebration organized by Likoni Pirates Team to mark and celebrate their victory.

Reachout Centre Trust was proud to support and stand in solidarity with these young people not only in celebrating their achievement, but also in promoting positive choices, healthy lifestyles, and a future free from drug and substance abuse.

Sport is more than competition. It is a powerful tool for bringing young people together, building confidence, creating opportunities, and keeping communities strong.

Together, we can create spaces where young people choose talent over drugs, purpose over addiction, and hope over hopelessness.

Strengthening Harm Reduction and Mental Health Support in Correctional Facilities

We engaged in a meaningful discussion with the Warden at King’orani Prison on the importance of strengthening awareness and implementation of the harm reduction model, while ensuring that mental health support remains an integral part of correctional services.

Rehabilitation must go beyond addressing the needs of inmates. The wellbeing of correctional staff is equally important. Prison officers work in demanding and high-pressure environments, which can contribute to stress, burnout, and unhealthy coping mechanisms, including substance use. Investing in mental health services, counselling, psychosocial support, and work-life balance is therefore essential for building a healthier workforce.

We also emphasized the need for accessible, evidence-based interventions, including harm reduction services, mental health care, counselling, and medication-assisted treatment, where appropriate. Supporting both inmates and staff creates an environment that promotes dignity, recovery, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society.

We commend the prison leadership for its openness to progressive approaches that place rehabilitation, recovery, and renewal at the heart of correctional services.

Together, we can build correctional systems that support healing, protect dignity, strengthen communities, and create safer and more humane environments for everyone.

Mombasa came alive

The Mombasa Mega Marathon 2026 brought us together to celebrate fitness, healthy living, unity and community spirit. As Reachout Centre Trust, we are proud to have been part of a day that reminded us of the power of positive choices.

Beyond fitness, we continue to champion a healthier, drug-free community. Let’s keep choosing healthy lifestyles, supporting one another and saying NO to drug and substance abuse.

A big thank you to all runners, partners, supporters and organisers who made this day unforgettable. Special appreciation to Mombasa Maize Millers and all stakeholders for their support.
