We recently held an important forum with youth groups from Mombasa County to enhance our Harm Reduction Program for young men and women. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to address substance use and support People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) through effective prevention and community interventions.

Participants shared insights into the complexities of substance use, emphasizing inclusive approaches that incorporate diverse perspectives. Collaboration among youth leaders and stakeholders was key to designing comprehensive programs that promote wellness and healthy choices.

We remain committed to implementing evidence-based interventions that empower youth, reduce harm, and create safer communities. Together, we can foster lasting positive change for the youth of Mombasa County.

Reachout Centre Trust was honored to host a productive feedback meeting with the County Health Management Team. The objective of this meeting was to strengthen the implementation of HIV prevention programs for key and vulnerable populations in Mombasa County.

This engagement served as an important platform to review progress, share insights, address existing gaps, and reinforce collaborative efforts aimed at improving access to quality, inclusive, and people-centered health services.

We were especially privileged to have Dr. Salma join us for the meeting. Her leadership, guidance, and commitment to public health continue to inspire collective action in advancing HIV prevention and community health outcomes across the county.

At Reachout Centre Trust, we remain dedicated to collaborating closely with government stakeholders, health partners, and communities to create sustainable and impactful health interventions that leave no one behind.

If life teaches painful realities, then one Murad Swaleh can truly testify.
For nearly two decades, Murad lived in the chains of drugs and substance abuse. Every day became a battle between hope and hopelessness. He tried countless times to quit, believing he could overcome addiction on his own, but every attempt pulled him back into the same dark world.
He cried silently.
He lost his family.
He was chased away from home like a stray dog.
Though he once had love, a family and people who cared about him, addiction slowly convinced him that the company of fellow drug users at the den mattered more than the warmth of family.
Life became unbearable.
Pushed into crime and consumed by despair, Murad reached a point where he believed life had lost all meaning. At times, he would spend days and nights in graveyards praying that Allah would take away his life and bury him without his family ever knowing.
But God had different plans.
One day, outreach workers from Reachout Centre Trust approached him with one mission to restore his life through counselling, treatment and family reintegration.
Murad resisted.
He became violent.
He rejected help.
But the Reachout team refused to give up on what many had already abandoned. Behind the pain and anger, they still saw hope in a broken soul.
Eventually, Murad agreed to begin the journey to recovery.
But the road was not easy.

He relapsed and returned to the drug dens once again.
Still, Reachout Centre Trust pursued him again patiently, persistently and with love.
Today, Murad speaks with a broad smile, full of life and gratitude.

โ€œI thank God for giving me a second chance. I thank, love and cherish Reachout Centre Trust for giving me a fresh breath of life once again. They persistently pursued their mission on me and made me helpful to myself, my family and now the community through advocacy and as a member of the Community Advisory Board fighting drugs and substance abuse.โ€
Today, Muradโ€™s story stands as a reminder that no soul is beyond redemption, and sometimes the people society gives up on simply need someone who refuses to stop believing in them.

We are deeply grateful for the continued support and partnership of religious leaders in advancing community efforts to prevent drug and substance abuse across Mombasa County.

Through ongoing engagement with Muslim clerics and other faith leaders, Reachout Centre Trust is working to strengthen awareness, advocacy for prevention, and support systems for individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. Religious institutions serve as powerful platforms for promoting positive values, guidance, and hope within our communities.

We sincerely appreciate our partner, NSDCC, as well as the presence and commitment of Mohammed Nur, the County Commissioner of Mombasa, who honored our event and encouraged religious leaders to speak openly about the dangers of drug and substance abuse within mosques and community spaces. His support and leadership continue to inspire collective action toward building safer and healthier communities.

Faith leaders play a vital role in reaching youth, women, children, and families with messages that promote healthy living, moral responsibility, and community well-being. Their dedication strengthens our shared mission of protecting vulnerable generations from the harmful effects of drugs and substance abuse.

Reachout Centre Trust proudly acknowledges the commitment, resilience, and collaboration demonstrated by all religious leaders and partners who continue to stand with us in this important cause. Together, through dialogue, partnership, and community action, we can create lasting change and build a healthier society for everyone.

Mental Health Awareness Monday

Your mental health matters just as much as your physical health.
This Monday, letโ€™s choose kindness, understanding, and support for ourselves and others.

Itโ€™s okay to speak up.
Itโ€™s okay to ask for help.
And itโ€™s okay to not be okay.

We can break the stigma and create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.
