Over the weekend, we had an engaging life skills session with adolescents at Chaani Youth Friendly Center, exploring self-awareness, self-esteem, and peer pressure.

Through open conversations and interactive learning, we empowered young people to understand themselves better, build confidence, navigate peer influence, and make positive, informed decisions that shape their future.

Because when young people know their worth, understand their choices, and believe in themselves, they are better equipped to take charge of their future.

Yesterday, through the support of NAYA KENYA under the Y-ARM project, we brought together young people from all six sub-counties of Mombasa County to strengthen their understanding of county governance, planning, budgeting and meaningful public participation.

Through practical learning, advocacy and dialogue with county officials, participants gained skills to navigate the county budget cycle, develop evidence-based memoranda, identify key SRHR priorities and advocate for their inclusion in county plans and budgets.

The goal is simple: to move young people from merely attending public participation forums to becoming informed contributors, advocates and accountability champions.

Endometriosis is increasingly demanding our attention as a nation. Every day, young women continue to endure debilitating pain, delayed diagnosis, stigma and in devastating cases, loss of life yet the attention, resources and support dedicated to addressing this condition remain far from enough.

We must do better. Endometriosis is not “just painful periods”; it is a serious health condition that deserves timely diagnosis, quality care, research, and meaningful support for those affected.

It is time to listen. It is time to act. It is time to make endometriosis a national priority.

Under our “Girl Let’s Talk” program, we yesterday had a candid and engaging conversation with adolescent girls on the realities of growing up in the digital age.

The discussion explored the dangers and effects of social media, responsible use of different digital platforms, online safety, and how young people can make informed choices about their digital presence and interactions.

Creating safe spaces for girls to speak openly, ask questions, share experiences, and learn remains at the heart of Girl Let’s Talk. Together, we are empowering girls with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate both the online and offline world safely.

The August school holiday is still ongoing, and adolescents continue to navigate a range of temptations, challenges, and decisions that can significantly shape their health and well-being. During this period, access to accurate information, guidance, and supportive spaces is more important than ever.

Over the weekend, we held a series of Focus Group Discussions with adolescents at the Chaani Youth Friendly Center to assess their level of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) literacy and explore the cross-cutting issues affecting their SRHR outcomes and access to services.

The adolescents shared valuable insights and called for more safe and inclusive platforms where they can openly discuss SRHR issues affecting them. They also highlighted the need to address barriers to accessing youth-friendly services and, importantly, to meaningfully involve adolescents in decisions and processes that affect their lives.

Young people are not just beneficiaries, they are partners in shaping solutions that work for them.

Yesterday, we joined young people, the County Government of Mombasa, and other stakeholders at Tononoka Social Hall to commemorate International Youth Day 2026.

Co-organized by the Department of Youth, Gender, Sports and Social Services alongside various partners, the event provided a vibrant platform for young people to connect, learn, share ideas, showcase their talents, and celebrate their invaluable contributions to our communities and nation.

As TAYO, we remain committed to amplifying youth voices and creating spaces where young people can actively participate, lead, and shape the future.

Yesterday, TAYO officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dream Achievers Youth Organization Kenya under the DARAJA Project, marking the beginning of an exciting partnership as one of the project's Community Hubs.

Through this collaboration, TAYO will play a key role in disseminating weather and climate information, creating awareness within communities, and strengthening local preparedness and resilience against weather and climate-related hazards.

We are proud to be part of this initiative and look forward to empowering communities with timely information that supports informed decisions, protects livelihoods, and builds climate resilience.
