Today, we launched the free school eye screening programme at Rang’ala Boys High School under Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Corporation - Kenya’s CSR initiative.
The exercise was officially opened by Hon. John Apodo, MCA for Sidindi Ward, and Eng. Jonathan Mbutu, Chair of REREC’s CSR Committee, who underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting eye health and improving learning outcomes for learners. The programme aims to support early detection and timely management of visual impairments among school-going children, contributing to more inclusive and conducive learning environments.
KSB appreciates the support from local leadership, education stakeholders, school management, and partners who continue to make this initiative possible.

Day one of the free school eye screening programme in Siaya County successfully kicked off at Simerro Senior School under Rural Electrification & Renewable Energy Corporation - Kenya’s CSR initiative. The exercise focused on promoting early detection of visual impairments among learners to support better eye health, improved classroom participation, and enhanced learning outcomes.
As part of the programme planning and stakeholder engagement, the KSB and REREC teams also paid a courtesy call to Mr. Francis Shikanda, County Director of Education – Siaya, whose support continues to strengthen the successful rollout of the initiative across the county.
We remain committed to bringing accessible eye care services closer to learners and communities.

Today, we conducted post-operative reviews at Kibera Community Health Centre – Amref for patients who recently underwent cataract surgeries at our head office.
These follow-up assessments are a critical part of the recovery journey, helping ensure proper healing, improved vision outcomes, and timely support where needed. It was encouraging to see the progress made by beneficiaries, many of whom are steadily regaining their sight and independence.
We remain committed to restoring vision and transforming lives through accessible, quality eye care services.

May is a month dedicated to opening our eyes to the importance of visual impairment and blindness awareness. At the Kenya Society for the Blind, we are committed to fostering a world that prioritizes inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for every individual with visual impairment.
This month, we encourage everyone to:
🟢 Prioritize Eye Health: Early detection is key; schedule an eye check-up today.
🟢 Promote Inclusion: Support environments that are accessible to all.
🟢 Spread Awareness: Share information to help break down barriers for those with visual impairment.

Together, we can ensure that visual impairment does not mean a loss of opportunity.
