She almost didn't join.

When Butere Community Development Trust (BUCODET) came to her parish in Kakamega County, Violet Mbosa Sande sat back and watched. She had doubts. She had questions. She wasn't sure this was for her.

Then she watched her neighbour walk out with a loan and walk back into her life with her children's school fees sorted.
That was enough.

Violet saved KSh 7,500 every month for six months.
She accessed her first loan of KSh 100,000.
She repaid it not in 12 months but in 7.

"I wish I had known this sooner."

Those were Mary's words as she proudly held fresh okra harvested from her kitchen garden.

For years, Mary Dzendere Menza grew her vegetables between her maize, just as many farmers do. But after learning climate-smart farming practices through Five Talents Kenya's Natural Resource Management and Climate Change Adaptation Programme, she tried something different.

She created dedicated garden beds for her vegetables.

The results spoke for themselves.

Mary's story reminds us that sometimes the biggest harvest begins with the smallest change and that the right knowledge can transform lives.

Across our Trust Groups, we continue to equip farmers with practical skills that strengthen food security, protect natural resources, and build resilience in the face of climate change.

🌱 Every thriving harvest begins with knowledge.

Sometimes the most important work begins by taking a moment to pause.

This week, the Five Talents Kenya family has come together in beautiful Malindi for our biannual Staff Capacity Building Workshop, a special opportunity to rest, recharge, learn, and reconnect as one team.

The workshop was officially opened by Bishop Reuben Katite, who shared a powerful devotion from Psalm 133 and encouraged us to embrace unity in both purpose and action. His message, "Tuwe Pamoja kwa Umoja", reminds us that when we work together, we are stronger, more effective, and better equipped to serve others.

As we spend the next few days learning, sharing experiences, building our skills, and strengthening our relationships, we are reminded that investing in people is one of the most important investments any organization can make.

We look forward to a week of growth, reflection, fellowship, and renewed energy as we continue our mission of transforming lives through economic empowerment.

For many communities, the future begins with one opportunity, one skill, and one person deciding not to give up. 🇰🇪

This Madaraka Day, we celebrate the strength and determination of women, youth, and families across Kenya who continue working hard to build better futures for themselves and their communities.

At Five Talents Kenya, we believe that when people are equipped with practical skills, financial knowledge, and the support of community, real transformation becomes possible.

From savings groups and small businesses to financial literacy and climate-smart livelihoods, we continue to walk alongside communities as they turn hope into opportunity and skills into sustainable livelihoods.

As Kenya marks Madaraka Day under the theme “Education, Skills and the Future,” we celebrate every individual working toward a more resilient and empowered future.

Happy Madaraka Day! 🇰🇪

Two different women.
Two distinct geographical regions of Kenya.
Different life experiences, yet connected by a shared pursuit of dignity, resilience, and economic independence.

In Northern Kenya, one woman’s journey toward rebuilding her life began after experiencing severe gender-based violence and financial instability.

Through the encouragement of our facilitators and the support of the ACK Kambi ya Juu Women’s Group under AMWEP, she found a supportive community and access to financial opportunity.

With a group loan and enterprise support, she established a salon business near Isiolo town a business that now enables her to support her children, meet school fees, and regain financial stability.

Her story reflects the importance of community-led empowerment systems that provide not only access to finance, but also encouragement, solidarity, and hope.

At Five Talents Kenya, we continue working alongside communities to build sustainable pathways toward economic dignity and self-reliance.

Two different women.
Two distinct geographical regions of Kenya.
Different realities, yet both journeys reflect resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity.

At Five Talents Kenya, we believe economic empowerment goes beyond savings and lending. Through our Trust Groups, members are also equipped with training in financial literacy, bookkeeping, and enterprise development to help them build sustainable livelihoods.

For Prisca Emmanuel from Kenya’s Coast Region, this support became the foundation for growth and independence.

Through hairdressing training and participation in the ACK Youth for Change Community Development Group under MCDT, Prisca began saving consistently through her Trust Group. Her commitment enabled her to access a first loan of KES 7,000, which she invested in growing her salon business.

After successfully repaying the loan, she later qualified for a second loan of KES 15,000 to further expand her services.

Today, Prisca runs a stable business that supports her daily needs and demonstrates the impact of combining practical skills, financial inclusion, and community support.

At Five Talents Kenya, we believe lasting change begins when communities are given the opportunity to save, grow, and invest in themselves.

For Jael Ayanga, a mother of four and member of the ACK Nzoia Parish Group, that journey began with saving just KES 500 consistently through her savings group.

After 30 months of disciplined saving, Jael qualified for a KES 60,000 loan which she invested in kale and cabbage seedling farming. With patience, commitment, and hard work, her small seedling nursery has grown into a trusted business serving local farmers within her community.

Today, Jael is earning a more stable income, supporting her family with greater confidence, and inspiring other group members to view savings and loans not just as support systems, but as opportunities for long-term growth.

Her story is a reminder that transformation does not always begin with big resources sometimes it begins with small, consistent steps and the courage to believe in a different future.

Bordering the Tsavo National Park, Angela spends part of her day chasing baboons away from her maize field with a catapult.
The rest of the day?
Running a thriving one-acre farm that supports her children and extended family.
In a place where drought and hardship are part of everyday life, Angela has turned dry land into opportunity through determination, savings, and climate-smart farming.
After joining the Timboni Self Help Group through Five Talents Kenya, Angela gained access to financial literacy training, savings opportunities, loans, and climate adaptation skills that helped transform her farm and strengthen her household.
Today, her farm grows kale, spinach, eggplant, maize, and beans, proof that when women are empowered with the right tools and support, transformation becomes possible.
We celebrate mothers like Angela: women quietly carrying families, building resilience, and creating hope where none seemed possible.
At Five Talents Kenya, we believe empowering women is not just changing one life , it is changing generations.

If you visited Kitui South, you might see tamarind and baobab trees and think… nothing of it.
Just trees.
But 16 women saw something else.
They saw:
School fees.
Food on the table.
Options.
This group didn’t start as a business.
They started as women holding each other together, buying utensils slowly,
showing up in moments of grief,
surviving together.
Then something shifted.
They learned to see differently.
And that changed everything.
🍯 Tamarind + Baobab became jam
💰 Jam became income
In just 2 months:
KES 5,880 in sales
KES 4,000 in profit
From what was already around them.
But here’s the part that doesn’t feel fair:
They’ve done the hard part.
They’ve built the product.
They’ve found the market.
And yet, they can’t grow.
Not because they can’t.
But because they’re not yet certified.
Sometimes the gap isn’t effort.
It’s access.
And sometimes, dignity looks like removing that one barrier.
