Background / Over View of Rapado
Rapado was founded as a Community based organization in 1992. That focused on interventions of integrating the fight against HIV/AIDS with mainstream development initiatives, before being registered as a Not for profit organization / NGO in December 2004. Their main target groups are orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya and its current program are in Migori, Ur
iri and Kuria districts. RAPADO’s conviction is anchored on the belief that everyone’s social, economic, and civil rights occupy a central place in making the world a better place, and thus to effectively contribute to this, it seeks to work at the grass roots people at the local level, while at national and global levels it seeks to contribute and influence policy through advocacy and sharing of best practices, knowledge and capacity building. The organization is currently engaged in various programmes that cover: Health, Gender, Governance, Education, Agriculture, Peace Building and Advocacy. To realize this aim and purpose RAPADO:
• Fundraises and mobilize resources to support interventions in Heath, Education, Food Security and Governance programs at the community level.
• Provides a platform for individuals, and community groups, local civil society organizations and government departments to use and exploit the existing potential and opportunities to realize better life outcomes.
• Build and strengthen partnership, leverage on technology, use best practices, tools and knowledge that target the betterment of life of vulnerable and disadvantage groups. RAPADO pursues a Participatory Integrated Community Development PICD an approach and model of Community Development CD that entails promotion of dialogue, building partnership, having a shared and common understanding of problematic issues and designs interventions / solutions that address the identified needs through a broad based consultative process led by the beneficiary groups. To empower communities RAPADO depends on existing local capacities to support local organizations to implement projects or advocacy for policy change.

People’s empowerment and building strong relationship is the starting point and end goal of RAPADO’s work. We work with community members to build partnerships that enable them to determine priorities and set goals that would empower them to achieve development that transforms their lives. RAPADO believes that full community participation, especially of youths, women and children, will ensure the long-term sustainability of projects and lead to stronger communities.
