Joylanders Academy is an educational institution that was developed to provide early childhood education and development, in order to address issues facing the local community of Mbita town in Kenya, including; poverty, poor health and nutrition and unemployment. Joylanders Academy is not just a school for early childhood education, it is a home away from home, where children can express themselve
s and develop their social, physical, emotional, mental and of course educational needs. Where children also learn important lessons on hygiene, local diseases, including HIV/AIDS, which is responsible for a large number of the children being orphaned. It is a place where children can learn, play and not feel hunger pains in their stomachs, after having a good breakfast of porridge and full nutritional meal for lunch. A place also providing jobs for the teachers of the area. Joylanders Academy is located in Mbita, in South Western Kenya, on the shores of Lake Victoria. It was officially opened on January 4th 2010, by Madam Judy Okong’o (School proprietor and Head teacher) and Mr. Charles Oyugi (Also school Proprietor & Treasurer). With time and support of the wider international community, the school can continue to offer a future for these children. To provide access to quality education and to further develop, grow and improve the school to cater for the growing population and wider community.
**Please note that we are known as both Joyland Academy and Joylanders Academy, as we first started as Joyland Academy and was later registered as Joylanders Academy, due to the first name already taken by another school.**
