I am proud to see how the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run Gold Label has grown from a simple idea into a World Athletics Gold Label event that continues to change lives.
Chepsaita is not just about running; it is about empowering communities. Ahead of every race, we hold medical camps where residents access free health check-ups. The event has attracted development partners who have helped deliver better roads, electricity, clean water, and, most recently, Safaricom’s school block for a local school. These are lasting benefits that go far beyond the finish line.
This year’s theme, “Running for Education,” reflects our mission. Over Ksh 20 million raised will support needy students to stay in school. With more than 20,000 spectators, the race also drives economic empowerment, as locals set up stalls and earn directly from the event.
Importantly, in line with World Athletics guidelines, we will this week be unveiling the call to registration. This will allow us to submit the names of entrant athletes two months ahead of the race for proper testing and compliance.
Chepsaita shows what is possible when sport is linked to education, health, and community growth. Together, we are building champions on the track and transforming lives off it.
