✅International Day of the Girl Child 2025
Theme: The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis
✅Today, we mark a powerful reminder: girls are not just the recipients of change — they are its architects.
✅We had a podcast conversation with girls and a gentleman from Mathare, where child marriage continues to echo across communities. We covered real stories — girls forced into early unions, the underlying pressures (poverty, social norms, lack of opportunity), and the ripple effects: disrupted schooling, loss of voice, vulnerability to abuse. ✅What stood out:
1️⃣Many of these girls don’t see child marriage as an abstract “bad practice” — for them, it is survival or the only option given.
2️⃣Even when laws exist, enforcement is weak, and many families are driven by economic desperation, peer pressure, or entrenched gender norms.
3️⃣But amid the struggle, there is resistance: girls fighting to stay in school; community members pushing back; local groups offering alternatives and support.
