Maternal healthcare is a RIGHT, not a political branding opportunity.

We strongly condemn the use of the Mombasa Governor’s. Abdul Swamad personal image on Mother & Child Health Handbooks meant for prenatal and postnatal care.

These books are sacred tools for birth justice, meant to protect mothers, support safe pregnancies, and uphold the dignity of women and children—not serve as campaign posters.
Birth justice means centering mothers, not politicians.

When a public official places his face on a maternal health handbook, it sends a dangerous message: that women must be grateful to individuals for services that are funded by public taxes and guaranteed by the Constitution. Safe pregnancy, respectful maternity care, and postnatal support are not favors—they are rights.

At a time when women are still being detained in hospitals after giving birth, dying from preventable maternal complications, and facing violence in healthcare spaces, this kind of political self-promotion is insulting and unacceptable.
We reject the personalization of public healthcare. We reject the politicization of women’s bodies. We demand dignity, accountability, and reproductive justice.

Our wombs are not campaign grounds. Maternal care is not a photo opportunity.

Proud that our colleague Veronica Waithera will be part of this important conversation, alongside Bina Maseno and Dr. Elizabeth Gitau. The session will be moderated by Dr. Stellah Wairimu Bosire.

Sustainable health systems are not built in policy rooms alone. They are built every day in households and communities, through the often invisible labour of women.

We had the honor of hosting James Savage from the Global Fund for Human Rights at the Women Collective offices, followed by a shared meal at Mama’s Kitchen—our survivor-led feminist solidarity economy initiative.
Mama’s Kitchen is more than a space for food; it is a site of resistance, healing, and collective power. Run by women who have survived sexual and gender-based violence, it embodies dignity, economic justice, and the transformative strength of feminist organizing.

What a beautiful and powerful day for our community.

We proudly launched Mama’s Kitchen a survivor-led feminist solidarity kitchen rooted in healing, dignity, and livelihood for women.
We want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the comrades, friends, partners, and community members who showed up in solidarity to celebrate this moment with us. Your presence, encouragement, and belief in this vision means so much to us.

Special gratitude to the feminist sisters and comrades who contributed financially and bought a plate for others in the spirit of solidarity. Your generosity ensured that many in our community could share a meal and be part of this collective moment. That is the true meaning of feminist care and community power.

We also extend special appreciation to the Africa Centre for Health Systems and Gender Justice for believing in our work and supporting this initiative with a seed grant that helped make Mama’s Kitchen possible.

Mama’s Kitchen is more than food — it is a space where women come together to heal, support each other, and rebuild their lives through collective care and solidarity.

Asante sana to everyone who walked this journey with us. The work continues. 💜

This International Women’s Day, we gather around the fire. 🔥💜

Mama’s Kitchen: Where Healing Feeds Power is cultivating survivor-led economic power so women can heal, rebuild, and thrive — not just survive.

We believe healing is political. Economic justice is health justice. And when women control resources, communities transform.

Your support fuels women’s income generation, strengthens autonomy, and advances their health and dignity.

This International Women’s Day, don’t just celebrate women — invest in their power.
Support. Share. Stand with us.

📅 8th March 2026
⏰ 1PM – Till Late

Join us as we launch this bold community space rooted in care, justice, and collective action.

Honored and energized to have Women Collective Kenya be part of the Africa Water Justice Feminist School. 🌊✊🏾

From frontline communities resisting evictions, water privatization, and ecological violence — to building feminist solidarity across the continent — this space reminded us that water is not a commodity, it is life, memory, and resistance.

We gathered as African feminists not just to learn, but to sharpen our politics, deepen our strategy, and strengthen cross-border solidarity. From East to West to Southern Africa, we affirmed one truth: African waters for African people.
Grateful for the sisterhood, the political clarity, and the courage we continue to build together. The struggle continues. 💧🔥

We build with our hands because no one builds for us.
When women have economic power, health equity and justice follow.
Investing in women is not charity, it’s power.
The Mama’s Kitchen is coming out powerfully. ✊🏾🔥
Thank you Africa Health System for walking alongside us and resourcing feminist futures
