As part of our restoration efforts, we recently launched a women-led initiative known as the Nkoteiya Women Rangeland Champions. Two weeks ago, marked a significant milestone in their journey: these dedicated women harvested grass seeds from our conservancy's grazing blocks—a major step forward in their commitment to restoring and protecting our rangelands.
The women have officially launched the Rangeland Restoration Program, beginning with the construction of semi-circular bunds—soil structures designed to retain rainwater, reduce erosion, and support the natural regeneration of vegetation.
Following the construction of these bunds, the women will spread the harvested grass seeds and await the rains to facilitate germination and growth. This initiative aims to rehabilitate degraded lands and restore the health and productivity of our rangelands.
In the future, as the grass matures, the women may also harvest and sell grass in bags, creating a sustainable source of income and improving their livelihoods thank you Pacida for the support and community members
