WOPADOVI-Kenya, (women against domestic violence) is a Non Governmental Organisation that addresses domestic problems facing the majority of women in Kenya, that are mostly ignored by law and isolated by the society. The main purpose of the organization is to fight domestic violence in Kenyan homes and encourage settled stable families. The current occurrences in Kenya are demanding. With the rec
ent happenings where a mother who is supposed to be caring can batter her own child because of eating from a neighbor's house, a mother again drowns herself and her babies out of domestic issues, a policeman goes on a shooting spree and kills tens of people, a father kills his own children while a husband murders his own wife…
These problems need to be addressed and that is why we are here today, to launch women against domestic violence with the faith that it shall address these issues. Women facing such issues need a place to run to, we hope that we can be that place where women will seek refuge and feel secure. But even as we find cases of domestic violence increasing, very little is being done. Where is the documentation? are the government gender desks functioning? There is need to urgently talk to women and now even men who are becoming victims of domestic violence. We need to be vocal on domestic violence. We need to save our brothers, our sisters, mothers, fathers and our children. We also need to shape the future generation, where people will learn to respect human life.
