We are pleased to announce the successful completion of 𝙖 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙚 in Kakuma, Kenya.
Organised by Building Livelihoods & Empowering Communities ORG- BLEC NGO with support from South-North Nexus , the training equipped traders from 𝙆𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙢𝙖 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙜𝙚𝙚 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙆𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙞 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙇𝙊 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨.

Participants learned practical modules on 𝙗𝙪𝙙𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣-𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜.The training was delivered by experienced trainers drawn from Turkana County - KNCCI and 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐄𝐅.

This initiative reflects our commitment to economic empowerment, financial inclusion, and building resilience among refugee and host communities through quality capacity development.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲: 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐣𝐞𝐫𝐢’𝐬 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭

​At 32, 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐣𝐞𝐫𝐢 understood how to survive, but she hadn’t yet mastered 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰. Running a small 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 stall on the edge of town, she served boda boda riders just to keep her rent paid and her two children fed. Every month felt like starting over—no savings, no clear plan, and the constant pressure of unexpected expenses.

Everything began to shift when Esther joined a financial education training program offered by Building Livelihoods & Empowering Communities ORG- BLEC NGO ,with support from South-North Nexus built on tools developed by the International Labour Organization .Though initially skeptical, the sessions sparked a fundamental change in how she viewed her business.

​𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 📈

​🟢 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞: She learned to separate personal and business finances for the first time.
​🟢 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚-𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: By tracking daily sales and expenses, she identified her most profitable products.
​🟢 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠: She created a simple budget, proving that saving small amounts was possible, not impossible.
​🟢 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: She moved from a survival mindset to planning for long-term growth.

​Esther identified a massive opportunity: as car and truck traffic increased on a nearby road, she saw a gap in the market for vehicle spare parts. Using her new financial discipline, she consistently set aside a portion of her profits.

​𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭?

After months of disciplined saving, Esther expanded her stock to include vehicle parts.

Today, her shop is a local landmark for reliability. Her income has increased, her children attend school consistently, and she has even started mentoring other women in her community.

​As Esther beautifully puts it:

​"𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞—𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞."

​ Providing the right tools doesn't just give an entrepreneur capital—it gives them control over their own future.
