Walking into these learning spaces and seeing the excitement on the learners' faces is always a reminder of why we do what we do. Through the L-CARE project, Dada Mkubwa intentionally crafted a platform that reaches the children who need it most, ensuring that no child is left behind.

Over the past sessions in Lunga Lunga Sub-County, our mentors have continued to show up with unwavering passion and commitment, creating safe and engaging environments where learners can openly discuss body changes, build life skills, and gain knowledge that will guide them through adolescence. From interactive classroom discussions to hands-on activities using the L-CARE Learner's Handbook, every moment has been an opportunity for growth, learning, and empowerment.

What stands out most is the curiosity, participation, and confidence displayed by the learners as they engage with the sessions. It is a testament to the impact of providing young people with the right information, support, and encouragement.

We remain committed to securing a brighter future for the young people of Lunga Lunga, one learner, one conversation, and one empowered child at a time. No child will be left behind.

What happens when a young person finally feels heard? What changes when they realize they are not alone? Let's break it down!!
Our L-CARE mentors took the first step into five villages of Lunga-Lunga, Mtune, Bumbuna, Bondeni, Makwatani, and Kasarani, not with answers, but with open hearts and listening ears.

Lungalunga is a community just like many others, where many adolescents grow up facing poverty, limited opportunities, and difficult life choices,and for dada mkubwa creating a safe space is not a luxury,it is a necessity.

The first session was all about building trust and getting to know each other.What is a safe space? Who can you trust? Where do you go when you need support? As stories were shared and barriers slowly came down, something beautiful happened: learners began to open up, engage, and see mentorship as a space where their voices matter.
There were moments of laughter, curiosity, reflection, and those quiet "aha" moments when learners realized that their feelings, dreams, and challenges are valid, and that there are people in their community willing to walk alongside them.
Trust was the lesson. Connection was the goal.
Today, we planted seeds of hope. Tomorrow, those seeds will grow into confidence, resilience, leadership, and brighter futures for the young people of Lunga-Lunga.

Who protects the adolescent in our communities?
Who responds when a child is at risk?
Which areas in LungaLunga need urgent attention and stronger protection systems?
And how do we work together to create safer spaces for every young person?
What happens when community leaders, teachers, health workers, and protection actors sit at one table to map out the realities adolescents face every day?
Where are adolescents most vulnerable in our communities?
Who is responding?
And what can we do better together?

The discussion group with the stakeholders focused on identifying Hotspot areas in LungaLunga, existing risk but the question was are leaders aware? The answer to this was Yes, this was evident from their small little group discussions. The conversation were honest, engaging and solution driven. It reminded us that protecting young people is a shared responsibility that starts within our own community.

Above questions are just food for thought...

Over the weekend, we held a stakeholders engagement meeting in LungaLunga to introduce the L-CARE Program and strengthen community collaboration in supporting and protecting adolescents.
The meeting brought together local leaders, health workers, security officers, and child protection stakeholders to discuss the importance of creating safer, supportive, and empowering environments for young people. Together, we explored community challenges, referral pathways, and collective solutions that will help improve adolescent wellbeing and protection.
We believe lasting change happens when communities work together. Thank you to every stakeholder who showed commitment, shared insights, and pledged support toward building a brighter future for adolescents in our communities.

The hearts behind the mission.
Today, we’re proud to introduce the incredible mentors of the L-CARE Program, passionate, committed, and ready to walk alongside young people from lungalunga with care, empathy, and purpose. We are creating mentors, listeners, role models, and champions for every person they will reach.
Over the past days, they’ve shown up fully learning, unlearning, asking hard questions, and growing into the kind of mentors who lead with both knowledge and heart.
At Dada Mkubwa, we believe that transformation starts with people and this team is exactly that.
Here’s to building a community where every young person feels seen, heard, and protected.

Day 2 of our L-CARE Mentor's Training

Today we held space for conversations that truly matter: understanding SRHR, unpacking consent and boundaries, and facing the realities of SGBV with honesty and care. It wasn’t just about knowledge, it was about building mentors who can listen without judgment, respond with empathy, and protect every young person they work with.
We explored myths, asked hard questions, and practiced how to handle real-life situations especially those moments when a young person trusts you enough to speak up. That trust is powerful, and today we focused on how to honor it safely and responsibly.
we’re not just training mentors, we’re shaping safe spaces, strong voices, and a generation that knows their rights, their boundaries, and their worth.

Day 1 L-CARE Mentor Training

After going through thorough mentorship selection, we managed to select 12 mentors out of over 100 who applied after going through the interview by the Dada mkubwa team.

Today we laid the foundation, not just for a program, but for a movement of mentors committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces for young people.
From sharing our expectations, to unpacking the realities adolescents face today, to practicing what it truly means to listen, guide, and hold space
Day 1 was a powerful reminder that mentorship begins with empathy.
We explored what safety feels like, built our own group agreements, and stepped into facilitation with courage (and a little vulnerability too). Because being a mentor is not about having all the answers, it’s about showing up, creating trust, and walking the journey with young people.
As we closed the day, one thing was clear:
:When mentors feel safe, they create safe spaces.
: When voices are heard, transformation begins.

We will be doing a 3 day on boarding mentorship session and we can't wait to see what we build from this.
