🌞 Protecting Our Skin in a Changing Climate 🤍

Kwale Albinism Network recently conducted a Skin Cancer Awareness Outreach in Samburu, Kwale County, bringing vital health information, screening, and protective support closer to people with albinism.

Samburu is among the hotter areas of Kwale County, and the increasing effects of climate change and global warming are making heat and sun exposure an even greater concern for vulnerable communities, including people with albinism.

During the outreach, we provided skin cancer screening, sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip balms to all people with albinism who attended. We also created awareness on the importance of regular skin checks, sun protection, and early detection.

At Kwale Albinism Network, we believe that climate action is also health action. As temperatures continue to rise, protecting people with albinism from excessive sun exposure must remain a priority.

Today was a powerful and impactful day for Kwale Albinism Network 🙌🏽

We successfully conducted a skin cancer awareness and screening outreach at Diani Health Center, reaching members of the albinism community with life-saving information and services. Participants received free skin cancer screening and essential assistive devices including sunscreen, lip balm, and other protective gear to help them stay safe under the sun.

Moments like these remind us why awareness, early detection, and access to protective resources are so important. We are proud to stand with the albinism community and remain committed to improving their health, dignity, and quality of life.

We are excited to share that we held a successful and highly productive meeting with potential partners

The engagement provided a valuable platform to highlight our work in supporting persons with albinism, especially in the areas of skin cancer prevention, awareness creation, and community empowerment.

We also had the opportunity to discuss the key challenges affecting our community, including limited access to sunscreen and healthcare services, stigma and discrimination, and the urgent need for increased awareness.

We are encouraged by the positive feedback, shared commitment, and willingness to collaborate towards creating a safer and more inclusive society for persons with albinism.

As we move forward, we remain committed to strengthening partnerships that will help us expand our impact and save more lives.
