When Trans Nzoia Women Leaders took the opportunity to engage in a tête-à-tête with the Acting Chair of IPOA, commissioner Ann Wanjiku Mwangi it opened an important conversation on how the Independent Policing Oversight Authority can collaborate more closely with the women’s movement in advancing accountability, civic engagement and community partnership. Her connection and engagement with the women’s movement made the discussion even more meaningful and impactful.

Transnzoia Women Leaders Community Based Organization is a movement rooted in both experience and grassroots understanding, something that has helped shape strategic, informed and impactful leadership over the last 10 years.

Today, our Chair commissioner Ann Wanjiku Mwangi who is the acting chair of independent policing oversight authority proudly hosted the high-level “Tuko Poa na IPOA” engagement in Trans Nzoia, bringing together citizens, IPOA leadership and key stakeholders to strengthen partnerships, accountability and community engagement.

The decision by the Acting Chair of IPOA to bring such a critical conversation home to Trans Nzoia — the county that gave her a platform for growth — is a true demonstration of impactful leadership that remembers its roots and brings meaningful engagement back to the people is a clear testimony of growth, substance and meaningful leadership.

It is with deep sorrow that we, as TWL, announce the passing of our dear member, Grace maina

We have lost a remarkable champion of women’s rights, particularly in advancing access to education, a dedicated teacher, and a great leader who inspired many through her vision, voice, and commitment to empowerment.

As TWL, we mourn a sister and stand in solidarity with her family during this painful time. Let us hold her in prayer as we also begin our contributions in support of her family.

Grace, you fought a good fight, served with purpose, and left an enduring legacy. May your soul rest in eternal peace.

Appreciation Note – IWD 2026

Sustainability of civil society and women’s movements remains a constant conversation in many donor spaces. Yet, for Trans Nzoia Women Leaders (TWL), our journey has always been rooted in belief, collective strength, and the determination of women coming together to act.

From the beginning, TWL has invested its own financial and human capital to sustain the movement and respond to issues affecting women in our communities. The International Women’s Day 2026 celebration at the maternity wing of Wamalwa Kijana Teaching & Referral Hospital stands as a testament to that commitment.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to the members and leaders of TWL, the true champions and drivers of the women’s agenda. By committing your own time, resources, and energy, you continue to demonstrate that the women’s movement is sustained not only by belief, but by the collective investment and leadership of women themselves. Your support in making IWD 2026 a success reminds us that when women invest in their cause, communities thrive. Ladies you are the heroes of this world.

Our Gratitude goes to Hon Lilian Siyoi, county Member of Parliament for Trans Nzoia, Ann Wanjiku Mwangi Acting Chair of IPOA, Teresa Metto Songony , Director at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching & Referral Hospital, Hon Barbra Kisuya Hon Lydia Mecha for their generous support towards the success of this activity.

We also sincerely thank the hospital management for opening their doors and allowing us to celebrate and support new mothers and their babies.

Together, we reminded the world that when we all give towards the cause of an equal ,and progress societies , we all gain.

Viva TWL. 💜

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026

Trans Nzoia Women Leaders (TWL) celebrated International Women’s Day at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching & Referral Hospital with mothers of newborn babies.

Through gifting mothers and their babies with essential items, TWL demonstrated compassion, leadership, and advocacy in action — truly reflecting this year’s theme .

When society gives women the space to lead, everyone gains. By supporting mothers and uplifting women, we strengthen families and build stronger communities.

With an attitude of care and service, Trans Nzoia Women Leaders continue to be a consistent voice of compassion, leadership, and action in our society.

Celebrating women. Supporting mothers. Building stronger communities.

Viva Trans Nzoia Women Leaders! 💜

Thanks to the administration of Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and referral hospital for allowing the partnership.

For over a decade, Trans Nzoia Women Leaders (TWL) has stood as a powerful voice for women and girls, advocating for protective policies, inclusive leadership, responsive budgets and systems that advance women’s rights. Built by ordinary women with extraordinary commitment, TWL continues to drive meaningful change by supporting programmes that promote dignity, reproductive health and safe motherhood. This International Women’s Day 2026, we honour women who prioritize maternal and child wellbeing as we advance the vision of zero preventable maternal and child mortality and celebrate safe, respectful birth. Join us in recognising the impact of women’s leadership in transforming communities.

When women and marginalized communities claim their wellness and healing, they exercise agency, challenge patriarchal systems, and demand equity. To rest, love yourself, and prioritize well-being is political,it is resistance. Taking care of yourself defies structures that exploit, devalue, or control women, and asserts empowerment and decision-making over your own life.
