Building Pathways to Opportunity for Young People in Kisumu County

At Youth Rise Initiative Community Based Organization, we believe that lasting youth empowerment begins by equipping young people with practical skills that lead to dignified livelihoods and stronger communities.
Through our partnership with the NYOTA Programme, we are proud to have successfully onboarded young people from wards across Kisumu County into market-oriented skills OJE training designed to improve employability, entrepreneurship, and community leadership.

Participants are currently undertaking training in:
💻 ICT and Digital Skills
🧵 Dressmaking and Tailoring
🤝 Social Work and Community Development
This initiative goes beyond technical training. We are nurturing confidence, resilience, and work readiness while connecting young people to opportunities that enable them to build sustainable futures for themselves and their communities.

Our experience implementing community-based youth programs continues to demonstrate that strategic partnerships are key to achieving meaningful and scalable impact. By working alongside government, development partners, training institutions, and local communities, we are creating inclusive pathways for young people—particularly those facing barriers to education and employment.

Strong and sustainable livelihoods are built through sound financial management, collective accountability, and strategic investment.

As part of Youth Rise Initiative Community Based Organization's commitment to empowering women through climate-adaptive agriculture in Kano, Kisumu County, we convened a livelihood strengthening session with women support group leaders to review the progress of their economic resilience activities.

The session focused on strengthening savings and lending practices, improving financial record-keeping, assessing group readiness to effectively utilize seed grants, and developing sustainable investment plans centered on climate-smart agricultural enterprises. Participants also explored practical approaches to building resilient livelihoods that can withstand the impacts of climate change while increasing household incomes.

By strengthening financial literacy, promoting accountable leadership, and supporting climate-resilient farming enterprises, we are enabling women to grow sustainable businesses, improve food security, and build more resilient households and communities.

Together, we are cultivating resilient women, thriving farms, and stronger communities.

Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed. Yet for millions of girls living in underserved communities, something as simple as a packet of sanitary pads determines whether they attend school or stay home in silence.

This , Youth Rise Initiative Community Based Organization is proud to join the global conversation by participating virtually in the United Nations World Youth Skills Day 2026 celebration as we reaffirm our commitment to equipping young people with the skills they need to build resilient and prosperous futures.

This year's event is especially meaningful for us as it marks the culmination of an intensive two-week, community-based skills and economic empowerment programme that reached over 200 fisherfolk women and young women across Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties.

Through this initiative, participants strengthened their capacity in:
✅ Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness and small business development
✅ Financial literacy
✅ Business planning and management
✅ Savings groups and financial inclusion
✅ Market access and enterprise growth

Our goal is simple but powerful: to promote economic independence, enabling women and young people to build sustainable livelihoods, reduce poverty, and create safer pathways for girls to remain in school and thrive.

As the world discusses the importance of skills for decent work, entrepreneurship, and youth leadership, we are encouraged by the determination and resilience of the women and young people we have worked alongside. Their stories remind us that investing in practical skills is one of the most effective ways to unlock opportunity and drive lasting community transformation.

We look forward to learning from global leaders during the UN event and applying those insights to strengthen our work across Kenya.

Empowering Girls with Skills for Life and the Digital Future!

Last week, we successfully held our first "Digital Futures for Her" training session in Homabay county, bringing together young women for an engaging learning experience that combined digital skills development with Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education.

Participants gained practical insights into digital opportunities, personal development, and informed health choices—equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to build healthier, more independent, and economically empowered futures. The project integrates digital skills, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and pathways to employment for vulnerable girls and young women.

This is just the beginning of a journey to empower the next generation of confident, informed, and digitally skilled young women.

Regular monitoring and engagement are essential in ensuring that programs designed for young women remain impactful, responsive, and sustainable.

Recently, the team from Youth Rise Initiative CBO (YRICBO) conducted a field monitoring and mentorship session with young women beneficiaries in Ahero, Nyando Sub-County as part of our ongoing efforts to advance girls' and young women's empowerment, leadership development, and socio-economic inclusion.

The session provided an opportunity to assess progress, reflect on achievements, and engage participants in meaningful discussions about the challenges and opportunities they encounter in their personal and economic growth journeys. Through open dialogue and shared experiences, the young women identified practical recommendations that will help strengthen future interventions and enhance their overall impact.

Beyond monitoring progress, the engagement fostered learning, accountability, peer support, and renewed commitment among participants to pursue their goals with confidence and resilience.

At YRICBO, we believe that empowering young women with knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities creates lasting change not only for individuals but also for families and communities.

Every girl deserves dignity, confidence, and the opportunity to stay in school — regardless of her menstrual cycle.

At Youth Rise Initiative CBO (YRICBO), we believe menstruation should never be a barrier to education, wellbeing, or opportunity. Today, we stand with girls and young women in underserved communities across Kenya by promoting menstrual health awareness, breaking stigma, supporting SRHR education, and providing sanitary pads to vulnerable girls.

Too many girls still miss school because of period poverty, shame, and lack of access to menstrual health products and information. Together, we can change this.
