Inequality and poverty remain pressing challenges both globally and locally, shaping access to opportunities, resources and dignity for millions especially young people.

At Kano Community-Based Organization (KCBO), we are intentional about contributing to spaces that drive meaningful dialogue and youth-led solutions. We were represented by our Team Lead at the Youth-led Global Citizenship for Reducing Inequality and Poverty workshop by Kind Heart Organization Kenya.

The engagement brought together young people and stakeholders to reflect on these issues and co-create practical, community-driven responses.

On 27th December, our Team Lead had the honor of representing Kano CBO at the official launch of Ripple Action CBO - a new community initiative dedicated to strengthening youth leadership and grassroots impact.

It was a meaningful moment of connection and learning as partners and community actors came together to celebrate their vision and explored future collaboration for shared community development goals.

KCBO warmly congratulate Ripple Action CBO on this incredible milestone and wish them every success as they begin this new journey of service, resilience and impact.

This year also gifted us a beautiful moment of calm, color and connection through our collaborative Sip & Paint wellness experience — a gentle space where creativity met healing.

Participants spent the day slowing down, grounding their bodies through mindfulness and yoga, sharing in a supportive group reflection session, and expressing their emotions on canvas during an uplifting guided painting activity.

More than an event, it became a reminder of the power of art, community and emotional wellbeing creating room for people to reconnect with themselves, breathe, and heal together.

We appreciate our partners and everyone in making this experience meaningful.

In 2025, one of our most meaningful moments was joining Gender Dialogues-K for the Dada’s Forum in Nyakach Sub-County, Katito hosted at Magunga Primary School during the International Youth Day commemorations.

Together, we engaged 160 adolescent girls aged 9–17 in safe, age-friendly cohort discussions creating space for them to express how they wish to be supported, the challenges they experience and the kind of care and protection they need in their homes, schools and communities. The girls were also introduced to a simplified SGBV referral pathway, helping them understand where and how to seek help when unsafe situations arise.

From the conversations, the girls highlighted key priorities that continue to guide our work:
✨ Supportive and understanding parents, caregivers and teachers
✨ Access to basic needs — clean water, food, uniforms and school fees
✨ Safe spaces to freely share their experiences
✨ Access to information to make informed, confident decisions

We are grateful for the collaboration and solidarity that made this session possible and for the powerful voices of the girls who continue to shape our community programs.

We held two days of learning, creativity, mentorship and empowerment of learners this holiday season.

🎭 When Art Meets Peacebuilding — Kue Manyien Community Theatre Showcase! 🕊️

Nyangande Market came alive with powerful storytelling and performance as part of our Kano Peace Circles Project. Through theatre, we brought the community together to reflect on peace, coexistence and the realities that often challenge harmony in our homes and villages.

The showcase sparked meaningful conversations on issues such as domestic and sexual violence, conflict within families and ways communities can live together in peace and dignity. What began as a performance soon transformed into an open dialogue full of empathy, reflection and a shared commitment to build peaceful and resilient communities. 🤝🏾✨

We are deeply proud of our Peace Ambassadors, actors and the entire community for showing that peace is not just spoken but can be performed, lived and shared.

Special thanks to Peace Direct and the Campaign for supporting this journey of healing and unity across Kabonyo Kanyagwal.
