Nelson Mandela TB HIV Information Community Based Organization Official We aim to educate and empower the community on TB and HIV prevention and infection control through right based approaches and have a healthy community.

The organization was founded by a group of 15 people infected and affected by TB and HIV in the informal settlement of Nyalenda in 2014 and is run by a board. Our Core values are dignity, transparency, diversity, solidarity and professionalism. We target Adolescents Girls and Young Women, Adolescent Boys and Young Men and directly benefit 150 adolescent boys and girls and 50 people living with HIV and affected by TB. Our programs include Health, Social justice and Ecological justice. Our program support include advocacy, communication, community mobilization, networking, research and mentor-ship. Our core partners are National Government, County Government, KELIN, Network of PLHIV & AIDS in Kenya, Network of TB Champions Kenya, research Institutions , NGOs and CBOs.

If someone in your family or among your close contacts has drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB), it does not mean that everyone around them will become sick. However, the risk of infection and developing TB disease can be higher.

That is why DR-TPT (Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment) exists. It is a preventive treatment for people who have been in contact with someone with drug-resistant TB.

✅ The goal of DR-TPT is to prevent active tuberculosis from developing before any symptoms appear.

Preventive treatment is prescribed after medical evaluation and after active TB disease has been ruled out. Current WHO recommendations support preventive treatment for people exposed to drug-resistant TB because it can significantly reduce the risk of developing the disease.

It is especially important for: 🔹 Family members and household contacts of a person with DR-TB
🔹 Children and adolescents
🔹 People with weakened immune systems
🔹 Anyone who has spent significant time in close contact with a person with DR-TB

💬 If you have been in contact with someone who has drug-resistant tuberculosis, talk to your healthcare provider about preventive treatment options. Early prevention can protect your health and the health of those you love.
