🌍 World AIDS Day: Understanding Viral Load vs CD4 Count

Viral Load (VL) — Amount of HIV in the blood.
This test measures how much HIV virus is in your bloodstream.
It shows how active the virus is.

Goal: Undetectable viral load
Meaning the amount of HIV is so low it cannot be measured.

- When viral load is high, the virus is multiplying fast.
When viral load is low or undetectable, treatment is working.

CD4 Count — Strength of your immune system

CD4 cells are soldiers of your immune system.
The CD4 count shows how strong your body’s defense is.
Higher CD4 = stronger immunity
Low CD4 = weak immunity, higher risk of infections

CD4 Levels
500–1500 = Normal / strong
200–499 = Weakened
Below 200 = Risk of opportunistic infections
