Young Africans Anti-poverty Organization

Young Africans Anti-poverty Organization YAAO aims to empower children and youth through fighting poverty and creating opportunities to establish small business that provide employment. Y.A.A.O.

(Young African Anti-poverty Organisation) is the brainchild of two young African entrepreneurs, George Isaac Gum Ngor (Coolkid Georghino) and Nyabalang Gatwich Pur. Both George and Nyabalang have experienced life first hand as refugees in Kakuma Camp in Kenya. Kakuma Refugee Camp serves refugees who have been forcibly displaced from their home countries due to war or persecution. Life in the semi-

arid desert environment of Kakuma is challenging – dust storms, high temperatures, poisonous spiders, snakes and scorpions, outbreaks of malaria, cholera and other hardships. George and Nyabalang are passionate about enhancing the lives of other young African refugees through creating opportunities for education, mentoring, and establishment of small businesses. Since the inception of Y.A.A.O, a small committee has been formed of other young people, equally as passionate and talented. The committee recognises the need for provision of support for children and young people who are refugees, and in many cases, orphans. In essence, they are determined to enhance the lives of young people through provision of educational opportunities, job training, mentoring and supporting career opportunities for those talented in sports or the arts.

The recent budget cuts by USAID have significantly impacted the lives of refugees. Refugees in the Kakuma Refugee Camp are now facing severe shortages of food and water due to the United Nations' insufficient budget to support hundreds of thousands of refugees. This situation has led to immense suffering among many families, who are now relying on external support from their relatives and friends. Access to food and water is a basic human need. Let us come together to save the lives of refugees.
