A small step today can shape the future of our oceans.

At Muyu wa Kae Comprehensive School, students recently gathered for an inspiring session on turtle conservation and ocean stewardship. The visit focused on helping learners understand why sea turtles matter and how young people can take part in protecting them.

During the session, students explored the journey of sea turtles along the Kilifi coastline, the threats they face, and simple actions communities can take to safeguard these incredible marine species. The highlight of the day was encouraging students to join and register for a school conservation club (Heritage Club), creating a space where young conservation champions can learn, lead, and act for nature.

Moments like these remind us that conservation begins with awareness and grows through community action. When young minds connect with nature, the future of our oceans becomes stronger.

A heartfelt thank you to the The Rufford Foundation for supporting this initiative and helping bring conservation education to local schools in Kilifi County.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Today, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, the "Blue Resilience" honors the incredible women who are the backbone of coastal conservation in Magarini.

From the mothers teaching their children the value of our oceans to the women’s groups actively participating in our beach patrols and turtle monitoring, your leadership is transforming the Malindi-Ungwana Bay.

In conservation, resilience isn't just about the ecosystem; it’s about the people who protect it. Today, we salute the women of Ngomeni, Kichwa cha Kati, and all our partner schools for proving that when women lead, nature thrives.

Together, we are nesting a sustainable future for our sea turtles and our community. 🐢💙

The "Blue Resilience" project just got a digital upgrade! To ensure every flipper print and nesting site in Magarini is recorded with precision, we’ve officially launched our new AppSheet Mobile Data Collection tool.

Gone are the days of soggy notebooks. Now, our community monitors can log real-time data directly from the shoreline, even in remote areas. This shift to digital tracking allows us to respond faster to threats and better understand nesting patterns in the Malindi-Ungwana Bay.

Our team was back on the sand for Nest Monitoring and Anti-Poaching Patrols. Here’s what happened:

1. We sat down with representatives from the Ngomeni and Kichwa Cha Kati Turtle Conservation Groups to refine our monitoring roadmap.
2. We patrolled key beach stretches to identify viable nesting sites and ensure they remain safe from poachers.
3. We are currently revising our agreements to better support our local scouts. The goal? Ensuring sustainable support for at least three patrols per week to keep our beaches secure around the clock.

By blending local knowledge with mobile technology, we are making strides toward SDG 14 (Life Below Water). This work wouldn't be possible without the continued belief in our mission from Rufford Foundation.

Together, we are building a "Blue Resilience" that protects both the heritage of our coast and the future of our sea turtles.

The future of the Malindi-Ungwana Bay doesn't just lie in the water; it starts in the classroom. On February 6th, against the historic backdrop of the Malindi Heritage Complex, we took a massive leap forward for the "Blue Resilience" project. We gathered with school patrons, education officers, and local leadership to plant the seeds for a movement that will bridge the gap between cultural heritage and marine conservation.

Under our initiative, "Enhancing Sea Turtle Conservation in Magarini Constituency," supported by The Rufford Foundation, we are moving beyond the beaches and into the hearts of the youth.

We are thrilled to announce a strategic collaboration with the Heritage Clubs of Kenya (a joint initiative by UNESCO and the National Museums of Kenya). By integrating marine conservation into the existing heritage curriculum, we aren't just teaching kids about history we’re teaching them how to protect the living legacy of our oceans.
