From Knowledge to Community Action!

As part of the Empower Project, implemented by youth-led and women-led organisations under the Plan International Kenya COSME Project, we facilitated a community sensitisation forum in Mwarakaya, Chonyi, focusing on the county budget process, public participation and social accountability.

Community leaders from different conservation groups gained practical knowledge on how they can engage in the budget-making process, identify and articulate community priorities, and hold duty bearers accountable.

But the learning doesn’t stop at the forum!
The community leaders are now ready to take the knowledge to their villages through their weekly group meetings—creating a ripple effect of informed and active citizens.

As we look ahead to the 2027/2028 County Budget, this engagement will support communities to meaningfully participate, submit their priorities and contribute to the next County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).

When communities understand the process, they can influence the decisions that shape their future.

What happens when young women are given the space, skills and confidence to create their own opportunities?

They create, learn, experiment and discover new possibilities.

This week, we introduced Tie and Dye to our Youth Voice and Empowerment Cohort 2 participants in Mtomondoni,as part of our Fashion and Design modules.

Before getting hands-on with colours and patterns, the session began with a self-confidence and resilience life skills session, creating space for young women to reflect on their self-worth, build confidence and strengthen their ability to navigate challenges.

We continue to equip young women with practical skills and life skills that turn creativity, confidence and potential into opportunity.

What a powerful way to bring the Murals for Peace journey full circle!

We successfully held our Post-Mural Forum with the Mnarani community, creating a space to reflect on the murals for Peace, explore the messages they communicate, and celebrate the community’s role in bringing them to life.
..and because we believe peacebuilding can happen both on the wall and on the pitch, we integrated sports into the forum through interactive football drills focused on peaceful coexistence.
Participants explored teamwork, communication, respect, inclusion and conflict resolution through the beautiful language of football.

We then gathered around the murals to discuss what the different messages mean to community members, how they interpret the artwork, and what the murals represent in relation to their everyday experiences and aspirations for a peaceful community.

The forum culminated in the official handover of the murals to the Mnarani community. Transforming them from painted walls into community-owned symbols of peace, unity, hope and collective responsibility.

This journey has reminded us that meaningful peacebuilding begins with listening to communities, creating with communities and ultimately placing ownership in the hands of communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their voices, ideas, creativity, energy and time throughout the Murals for Peace journey.

From Brushstrokes to Dialogue: Join the Mnarani Post-Mural Forum!

Following our community message development forum, where young people, community leaders and key stakeholders came together to identify the issues affecting peaceful coexistence and co-create the messages for our murals, we brought those ideas to life through a community-led mural painting exercise.

The result? Vibrant murals carrying messages of peace, unity, hope, inclusion and peaceful coexistence shaped by the community, for the community.

But the journey doesn't end with the last brushstroke!

We are now inviting the Mnarani community to our Post-Mural Forum, where we will come together to reflect on the murals, discuss the messages they carry, hear community perspectives, and officially hand over the murals to the community as lasting symbols of our collective vision for peace.

📅 Tuesday, 18th August 2026
⏰ 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

We warmly welcome community members to join us as we move from brushstrokes to dialogue, and from dialogue to community ownership.

Striding for a Drug -Free Generation 🏅

We are proud to celebrate our Board Member; Zuhura Mgenge , for taking part in the inaugural Mombasa MEGA Marathon held over the weekend under the theme “Striding for a Drug-Free Generation.”

Kandanda Mashinani -Beyond Football!

We were delighted to host Hidaya Sports Africa at Mgandini Community Grounds in Kibarani ward for the U-15 ladies’ friendly match between Tuungane Queens FC and Hidaya FC.

Beyond the final whistle, the day created space for interaction, peer learning, mentorship and friendship—reminding us that grassroots football is not just about competition. It is a powerful platform for young people to build confidence, discover their potential, learn from one another and see what is possible for women in sport.

This is Kandanda Mashinani—football rooted in our communities, creating opportunities from the ground up.

More football. More mentorship. More opportunities for young people to thrive.

Education Changemakers Summit 2026

We were privileged to take part in the 2nd Annual Education Changemakers Summit, organized by the Regional Leadership Center East Africa in collaboration with The Trevor Noah Foundation , Kenyatta University , and other key stakeholders.

Held under the theme “Young Changemakers: African Education Reimagined,” the summit brought together inspiring voices to explore how Africa can transform education through innovation, technology, community-driven solutions, and strategic partnerships.

Discussions explored scaling African education innovations, reimagining the future of learning, leveraging technology and communities for inclusive education, and building future-ready education ecosystems across the continent.

The summit offered valuable insights, connections, and fresh ideas that will continue to strengthen our work with young people—particularly in creating opportunities for lifelong learning, skills development, and meaningful participation in shaping their communities and futures.

The future of African education is being reimagined—and young changemakers are at the heart of it.

We joined young people and other stakeholders in Kilifi North Sub-County for consultations on the development of the Kilifi County Youth Policy.

We are encouraged to see young people being given space to speak, share their lived experiences, and contribute to decisions that affect their lives. Meaningful participation goes beyond being consulted—it means listening to young people and ensuring their voices are reflected in the final policy.

As the consultations continue across all seven sub-counties, we look forward to seeing diverse youth perspectives come together to shape a policy that responds to the realities, needs and aspirations of young people across Kilifi.

From consultation to action—may their voices help shape the way forward.
