Awer Women Empowerment are backing The CircleNGO's appeal calling for the mobilisation of money to grassroots women's rights organisations across the globe tackling gender-based violence.
1 in 3 women globally experience physical or s*xual violence in their lifetime.

The news illustrates that violence against women and girls and the abuse of power that enables it, happens at every level of society, in all cultures. The most vulnerable, including those in conflict zones, are most at risk.

This International Women's Day, as proud global feminists we are making a stand in solidarity with women on the frontlines of this violence and calling on corporations, philanthropists and governments to support women-led organisations around the world tackling this epidemic.

It is astonishing that in all our words of feminism and anti-s*xism we never seriously talk about ending r**e.

Ending it...... Stopping it..........No more...........No more r**e. for GBV to end GBV

Every eighteen seconds a woman is being beaten

There is nothing abstract about it.

It is happening right now as I am speaking

I want to see this men’s movement make a commitment to ending r**e because that is the only meaningful commitment to equality. for GBV to end GBV

Last week, we participated in the annual Circle Partners’ Forum. This annual forum brings together The Circle’s 12 grassroots partners from Nigeria, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Kenya, Afghanistan, UK, South Africa, Uganda and Middle East and is a vital space for collaborative working, peer support and skill sharing. At a time of great concern from women’s rights, this was a powerful moment to regroup and inspire towards collective action.
Collectively in the last year, we and other frontline partners have supported over 88,000 women and girls directly facing violence and injustice and made incredible and lasting change in their communities. We were also delighted, to be joined by former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard led an empowering and collaborative session on leadership and resilience

Julia Gillard, former Prime Minister of Australia said, ‘These are the vital spaces we need going forward, solidarity amongst women to gather, share and inspire action. It was a privilege to have join the Partners’ Circle this year’
