When we think of a mother breastfeeding, we often picture a quiet moment in a nursery. But for mothers with disabilities, that moment often comes with extra hurdles.

This Breastfeeding Week, we are celebrating the incredible mothers who face these challenges head-on.

Did you know?

1. Many women with disabilities can successfully breastfeed with the right support.

2. Breast milk is still the best first food—packed with nutrients and antibodies to give babies the healthiest start.

3. The bond formed during breastfeeding is just as powerful for mothers with disabilities; it promotes emotional connection and comfort for both.

But here is the thing: they can't do it alone.

What they need:

1. Partners who believe in them.
2. Healthcare providers who offer respectful, tailored, and accessible care.
3. Communities who support them instead of judging them.

In Kenya, women and girls with disabilities are still fighting for something that should already be guaranteed: the right to own and inherit land.

The truth is, the law recognizes their rights. But many still face family pressure, discrimination, exclusion, and silence when it comes to property and inheritance. Too often, a woman with a disability is treated as if she should depend on others, instead of being recognized as someone with full rights of her own.

But land is more than land.

It can mean shelter. It can mean food. It can mean income. It can mean safety. It can mean freedom.

When a woman or girl with a disability is denied land, she is being denied more than property. She is being denied dignity, independence, and the chance to build a secure future.

We need to speak more honestly about this in Kenya. Inclusion is not real if women and girls with disabilities are still left out of inheritance, land ownership, and family decision-making.

Their rights are not optional. Their rights are not a favor. Their rights are not up for debate.

Women and girls with disabilities have the right to own land.

Did you know 1 in 5 women worldwide is with a disability? Yet women and girls with disabilities are still three times more likely to be denied an education, three times more likely to face barriers to healthcare, and far more likely to be excluded from work, decision-making, and everyday spaces that others move through without a second thought.

That's not a small gap. That's millions of women and girls with disabilities being told quietly, through inaccessible buildings, closed doors, and closed minds, that the world wasn't built with them in mind.

Every woman and girl, regardless of ability, has the right to live with dignity, equality, and inclusion. In school. At work. In healthcare. In her community. Full stop, no exceptions.

Disability doesn't erase ambition, talent, or voice; it's the barriers around it that need to change, not the woman herself.

This is a call-in, not just an awareness post. Follow, listen to, and amplify women with disabilities in your own community. Ask your workplace, school, or local leaders one honest question: who is being left out, and what would it take to include them?

The 2026 theme for Disability Pride Month is "The World Works Better With Us"—and for disabled women and girls, that truth hits close to home.

All women deserve the right to make decisions about their own bodies. But too often, disabled women and girls are left out of the conversation. They face forced sterilization. They're denied birth control or period care that works for their bodies. They're told they shouldn't become mothers. Some even lose custody of their children simply because of their disability.

And here's another hard truth: many disabled women still can't get married without losing the healthcare and income they depend on to live.

This July, let's turn pride into action. Contact your lawmakers. Demand reproductive freedom for every body. Demand an end to the marriage penalty. Every woman and girl with a disability deserves the right to choose her own future.

Something beautiful happened in June.

You called us. Again and again. And we couldn't be more grateful.

In the first week of June, we received 80 calls. By the last week, that number had jumped to 139. That's a 73.8% increase, and honestly? It tells us that more women and girls with disabilities are finding their voice and reaching out for support.

Overall, we supported 467 calls against our target of 352. We hit 133% of our goal, and while we're proud of the numbers, what really matters is what each call represents: someone trusting us with their story, their fear, their hope.

The growth slowed a bit toward the end of the month, and we think that's okay. It might mean we're finding a steady rhythm, not just a one-time spike. It means you know we're here, and you'll call when you need us.

To every woman or girl with a disability who picked up the phone: We hear you. We see you. And we're walking with you.

Today, we're celebrating something truly special the strength, creativity, and potential of young women and girls with disabilities everywhere.

Let's be real: for far too long, they've been overlooked in the workforce not because they lack skills, but because the world hasn't made space for them. But here's the game-changer: new technology is flipping the script.

Think about it:
💻 Voice-to-text software lets women with mobility challenges write, design, and create.
📝 Live captioning lets Deaf women lead meetings with confidence.
🏠 Remote work lets women with chronic illnesses contribute from wherever they feel best.

The technology is here. The talent is here. The only missing piece? Employers willing to open their doors and provide these tools.

To every business owner, HR manager, and leader reading this: hiring a woman with a disability isn't charity it's a smart investment in a loyal, innovative, and determined employee. She's ready. She's capable. She just needs a chance.
