Mitubiri Family Development Project (Mitubiri Project) is a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with a coordinating office located in Kiambu Town. It started its operations in Mitubiri of Murang’a South District, Murang’a County; and in 2005, it expanded its area of coverage to include some areas in Thika East District of Kiambu County. The Mitubiri Project is undertaken to improve, through support
activities, the livelihoods of children and adolescents from deprived, excluded, orphaned and vulnerable backgrounds in its area of coverage. Its overall objective is to mitigate the socio-economic challenges affecting these intended persons. The intended beneficiaries of support from the Project are:
a) Caregivers of children aged 0-5 years, both men and women;
b) Children aged 6-14 years, both boys and girls; and,
c) Children and youth aged 15-24 years, both boys and girls. In the delivery of its support to the beneficiary community, the Project acts in partnership with relevant Government of Kenya (GoK) agencies such as Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development; Constituency Aids Control Councils (CACC); the USAID Funded Aphia Plus Kamili Project in Central Kenya supporting OVC affected by HIV/AIDS; Makuyu County Council; Children’s Department; Probation; Provincial Administration; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Agriculture; and, Constituency Development Fund. The reasons for this partnership are: a) To harmonise and align the Project’s activities with the GoK’s priorities, as well as eliminate duplication of efforts in its area of operation, thus ensuring its efforts are as cost-effective as possible; and, b) Be part of the cause in shaping the policies and practices enacted at national level, with intend of ensuring they contribute to the overall wellbeing of children.
