PUBLIC STATEMENT: MWEA VETERANS CBO CELEBRATES FIRST ANNIVERSARY AND APPROVES 2026 STRATEGIC PLAN

Mwea Veterans Community-Based Organization (CBO) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and First Anniversary Inaugural, held on Saturday, December 20, 2025.
This milestone event marked exactly one year since our inception, providing a platform to reflect on our progress and solidify our commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of our members and the wider Mwea community.
Key Highlights of the AGM:
Approval of the 2026 Strategic Plan: In a landmark decision, members unanimously approved the 2026 Strategic Plan. This roadmap prioritizes several new community projects focusing on sustainable agriculture, irrigation,water programs,Trade ,Social Welfare ,Governance,Justice youths and sport initiatives.
Performance Review: The leadership presented a comprehensive report on the achievements of 2025, highlighting the growth of our membership and the successful launch of our initial community outreach programs.
Partnership Appreciation: We extend our deepest gratitude to all our partners—including Members of County Assembly representatives,Mwea Parliamentary Aspirants, NGOs, and private sector business community sponsors—who joined us. Your presence and generous support have been instrumental in our first year of operation.

The passing of Hon. Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo, the former Member of Parliament for Lugari, has been mourned as a significant loss to Kenya's political and business landscape. He died on the morning of Saturday, December 13, 2025, following a tragic road accident at the Karai area in Naivasha along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway. Hon. Cyrus Jirongo (1961–2025)
It is with profound shock and heavy hearts that Mwea Veterans CBO members and kenyans at large receive the news of the untimely passing of Hon. Cyrus Jirongo. Kenya has lost a political titan, a relentless entrepreneur, and a fearless leader who helped shape the nation’s democratic and economic journey.
A man of unmatched boldness and charisma, Cyrus Jirongo rose to national prominence as the chairman of the Youth for KANU '92 (YK-92) movement, playing a defining role in one of Kenya’s most pivotal political eras. As a Member of Parliament for Lugari and a former Cabinet Minister, he served with a dedication that was both profound and enduring, always remaining deeply connected to his roots in Western Kenya.
Beyond the halls of power, he was a visionary businessman whose generosity was known to many. He was a fighter who refused to be defeated by life's challenges, living authentically and on his own terms. Above all, he was a devoted family man whose legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the leaders he mentored.
As a CBO we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Lugari. May the Almighty grant them strength and solace during this incredibly painful moment.

He Served as Lugari MP for two terms (1997–2002 and 2007–2013) and as Minister for Rural Development in 2002.
YK-92 Leadership: Led the influential Youth for KANU '92 movement that campaigned for President Daniel arap Moi's re-election. Formed the KADU party in 2006 and the United Democratic Party (UDP) later in his career, contesting the presidency in 2017.
He was a shrewd businessman, philanthropist, and former chairman of AFC Leopards.

On World AIDS Day (December 1st), MWEA VETERANS CBO joins the global community to raise awareness, show support, and continue the fight against HIV/AIDS. This day is an opportunity to commemorate those we have lost, celebrate the resilience of those living with HIV, and educate ourselves for a healthier future.
Our core message is:
Know Your Status: Getting tested is the first crucial step towards a healthier life.
End Stigma and Discrimination: HIV is a health issue, not a character issue. We must ensure an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe accessing care without fear.
Communities Make the Difference: Community organizations, like ours, play a vital role in connecting people with essential prevention, treatment, and care services.
Together, through education, compassion, and unity, we can move closer to a world where HIV/AIDS is no longer a public health threat.

Today 17/11/2025 Mwea Veterans CBO legal advisor Counsel John Chege Wakili Ndungu Chege Ndos in company of Counsel Ruth Gachungi Ruth Gachungi represented Mwea Rice Farmers community at Kerugoya Law Court where they again delivered good news to Mwea Rice Farmer whereby the honourable courts extended the order suspending the privatisation of Mwea Rice Mills Ltd.
As an organization we are always ready to support all our farmers in all aspects.
