Mwea Veterans CBO Partners with NACADA Kenya to Combat Drug and Substance Abuse in Kangai Ward
KERUGOYA, KENYA — The Mwea Veterans Community-Based Organisation (CBO) Committee on Health, Education, and Community Affairs has successfully secured a strategic partnership with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Kenya.
In a high-level meeting held yesterday at the Kirinyaga County Commissioner’s Office in Kerugoya, committee members officially presented a comprehensive proposal for the Drug and Substance Abuse in Kangai Ward Pilot Project.
The initiative received strong endorsement from NACADA Kenya. Catherine Kimui, the NACADA Kenya Kirinyaga Coordinator, warmly welcomed the partnership and committed the authority’s full support. Under this joint framework, NACADA will collaborate with the Mwea Veterans CBO to deploy robust intervention strategies, including:
Prevention Measures: Implementing proactive programs to shield vulnerable populations from initiation into substance use.
Sensitization & Awareness Creation: Launching targeted public campaigns to educate residents on the dangers of addiction.
Capacity Building: Training community leaders, youth, and local stakeholders to effectively manage and mitigate substance abuse challenges.
This partnership marks a critical milestone in restoring health, safety, and productivity within Kangai Ward, serving as a blueprint for community-led interventions across Kirinyaga County.
The Mwea Veterans CBO and NACADA Kenya urge all community members, parents, and leaders to support this pilot project as we work together to build a drug-free society.

The Mwea Veterans CBO family is deeply heartbroken by the tragic dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, which has claimed the lives of 16 innocent learners and left dozens injured.
No parent should ever have to bury a child. As an organization, we stand in complete solidarity with the heartbroken families, the school administration, and our disciplined forces fraternity during this painful time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families for comfort, and we pray for a speedy recovery to all the girls currently hospitalized. We urge members of the public to protect the dignity of the affected families by refraining from sharing unverified details or distressing images online.
