Description

BACKGROUND INFORMATION. This networking forum is a non political, street child & youth focused organization, established as a result of life experience faced through challenges in life as a neglected street vulnerable orphan child or youth amid pressures, frustrations, predicaments, fears among other challenges. The fact on the ground is that;
• In every cosmopolitan town center, street childre...n tend to be invisible to the community yet they exist and cause tangible damages and inconveniences in response to harsh living condition they go through.
• They are considered not only to be too young to be part of any system of development structures but similarly regarded as good for nothing vagabonds.
• Their lives circulates around the garbage dumping sites all through the day enjoying nothing more than sneezing gum which eventually triggers some elements of both hallucinations and schizophrenia.
• They definitely have no one to share their challenges, concerns, hopes, fears, feelings, and needs among other related issues for any possible attention, support or action on their behalf.
• Government’s attempts for rehabilitation have not been successful as expected, National Youth Service (N.Y.S) Recruitment just to mention a few, did not work well as a way of rehabilitation. SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS. As an organization dealing with vulnerable children, it came to our notice that street kids prevalence is on the rise, in most cases, they have been assumed and neglected since existence besides the government intervention strategy to recruit them for National Youth Service. The plan did not work well and as a result they keep on graduating from street child to street youth then finally street family since the environment gives room for an individual growth and development physically and procreation at general, they similarly have boyfriends as well as girlfriends though in a circus kind of relationship which is severely deadly with the HIV/AIDS scourge. Among the factors that contribute these children looking for what seems to be a safer environment to them through hazardous to health are majorly based on child abuse i.e. child labor, child neglect among other things. During our intervention for the plight of the vulnerable in our feeding program to slum schools, the organization has observed the following case studies;

• The program seek to identify children and youths who will appear as trainers for every street base, train them on various capacity through organized workshop such as peer education on drug and substance abuse, Reproductive health and HIV/AIDS, Psychosocial Support, Child Rights based focused advocacy and impart the information and skills required to roll back to fellow street kids and community at large.
• This will act as a lee way to introduce and establish a child and Youth Street based Resource Center in every region to enable them access the same services conveniently with the expectation of putting control and measure on the plight and impact of street kids and enhance their social network through public gatherings as Talent show and culture week events among other social events.
• Identify potentials among them having gone through the expected workshop trainings and link them for vocational training, engage them in environmental cleanup program, as well as recruiting those who are capable to join National Youth Service to facilitate their integration back to the society as responsible citizens. Case Study one:

• On a significant note, some orphans are left in the hand of their grandees who besides being old and illiterate, they are jobless. Gradually the old man or woman grow weary and left with no option since their effort has worn out and instead, desperately needs both care and support which now prompt the former care recipient assume the responsibility prematurely without guideline experience as well as resources. What confusion? It only takes the grace of God to prevail here. You might find that even the family did not have a stable religion background as in few cases. The child therefore stumbles for survival and at this particular point is when some of them would rather prefer to mess up with their lives by joining the bad company due to peer influence and begin to take drugs, turn to robbers and other related activities. Case Study two:

• Another practical scene that astonishes and embarrassing occur when you attend the funeral service of someone who has not laid down a proper succession planning for inheritance yet he had accumulated some wealth. There erupts conflict of interest on who to be the custodian, the two raging families (one from the wife`s side and the other from the husbands side) would exchange words amid the funeral service or a few days after burial and some accusation end up in physical fights that leaves the orphans hopeless for their future and remain asking themselves this question; If these are the people who are suppose to take care of us and right now is when we severely need their support and they behave this way what actually lies ahead? These orphans do notice that the issue is not all about who to be the custodian but both parties are interested for personal gain on what they did not work for even though there is nothing they can do about it since the decision does not lie upon their hands but on the hands of these raging families. It all a blame game scenario from both parties and Still I wonder how these orphans feel but one thing I know is that they are left with a lot of confusion and worries ahead of frustrations than if they would remain alone without such incidences. They fail to understand who`s real and who`s wrong, no tangible hope seem to exist thus offer themselves at the hand of selfish verdict. Case Study Three:

• Finally, in some instances and this implies to the marginalized families, both parents might be alive but just fake hostility to cover up their irresponsible behavior upon failure to deliver to the basic needs as food, shelter, clothing, love and security. The child therefore find no reason to stay around with the parents thus opt to run away seeking for comfort only to find himself/herself in the street.
