Today marks the International Day of Delayed Justice, but for many survivors or victims of police brutality, Gender-Based violence, families affected by femicide in Kenya, delayed justice has become denied justice

Every delayed investigation, postponed hearing, ignored report, and unresolved case sends a painful message that some lives are considered less worthy of protection. While families mourn and survivors struggle to heal, many perpetrators continue to walk free, protected by a system that too often fails those most at risk.

The growing cases of femicide, GBV, and police brutality in Kenya are not just statistics they are stolen futures, shattered dreams, and lives that mattered. At the same time, intersex Trans and gender-diverse persons continue to face violence, discrimination, and harassment in hospitals, within their own homes, on the streets, and in public spaces. Many are denied healthcare, subjected to abuse, or attacked simply for existing. When these violations occur, justice is often slow, inaccessible, or entirely absent.

Justice should not depend on gender, identity, status, or privilege. Every survivor deserves to be heard. Every victim deserves accountability. Every family deserves answers.

Today, we remember those we have lost, stand in solidarity with survivors, and call on duty bearers to strengthen accountability mechanisms, protect vulnerable persons and communities, and ensure that every case is treated with the urgency it deserves.

Justice delayed is justice denied. We can not build a just society while survivors wait endlessly for protection, accountability, and healing.

Today, 17 May, is IDAHOBIT: the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia, and Discrimination Against Intersex People. It is also recognised as the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination.

The day was established in 2004 to commemorate the historic moment in 1990 when the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.

There is still a long way to go. As of 2026, there are still 65 countries where homosexuality is criminalised. Around the world, trans people continue to face violence and pathologisation, while intersex communities continue fighting for the right to bodily integrity, physical autonomy, and self-determination.

This year’s theme, “At the Heart of Democracy,” reminds us that despite our diverse backgrounds, most people desire communities where every life can flourish freely, safely, and with dignity.

When transgender lives are under attack, our shared humanity is diminished.

Dignity, safety, and access to rights are not privileges they are fundamental human rights for all. Now more than ever, we must stand in solidarity, use our voices responsibly, and advocate for inclusive systems that protect and uplift transgender communities.

Let us move beyond silence and take meaningful action toward equity, justice, and inclusion.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength and resilience of women in all their diversity.

Womanhood is not limited to one experience. It includes intersex women, transgender women, q***r women, women with disabilities, and women who challenge traditional gender expectations.

Building inclusive communities means recognizing that every woman deserves dignity, visibility, and equal opportunities because inclusion is not complete until everyone is included.

Yesterday, we engaged young mothers, community health providers, community leaders, and youth in Kariobangi North, Nairobi, in an intersex sensitization session aimed at strengthening community understanding of intersex persons and their rights.
The dialogue focused on addressing stigma and discrimination and improving awareness about the barriers intersex persons face, especially when accessing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRHR) services. Through open conversation and shared learning, the session helped demystify common misconceptions and encouraged more inclusive and respectful healthcare and community support.
Together, we continue working towards communities that respect the dignity, rights, and wellbeing of intersex persons.
