The Apostles of Jesus Youth Technical Institute began way back in 1985. This Institute is owned and managed by the missionary Institute of the Apostles of Jesus. It was founded to respond to the development needs of the local community and concern for the disadvantaged youth who hail from poor backgrounds and as a result could not go to institutions for higher learning. The Institute aims at givin
g matching job oriented technical skills to the youth. The Apostles of Jesus realized that young people especially those from poor families and orphans need the means to generate income and improve living standards a prime requirement for the reduction of poverty, hope for a better future and reduction of crimes since idle youth can engage in anti-social activities and commit crimes. It is against this background that the Apostles of Jesus Youth Technical Institute was founded to administer vocational Training activities to the disadvantaged youth who in turn when highly skilled can promote indigenous development as well as adapt to the emerging technology and skilled patterns relevant for actual empowerment market. The Apostles of Jesus Youth Technical Institute totally depends on the Apostles of Jesus General Administration for the necessary funds: for educational facilities, paying of teachers, workers, pastoral aids or materials, electricity bills, water bills and communication. It is true that, such allocation of funds is sometimes insufficient to cater for such innumerable needs of the technical Institute squarely. I should also let you know that our local efforts are geared at producing something for sustenance of students since these students come from very poor background and are un able to pay school fees. For feeding, we sustain the students and encourage them to do some agriculture. This is done through farming though at a small scale, we have poultry for meat, cows for milk, piggery for meat and manure, and also we have gardens where we plant some vegetables, maize, beans, bananas, and fruits. These add something to our self-reliance, especially at this time when we are faced with hunger and general economic hardships. Also we have a production unit such as Carpentry, Garage for practical, and Cafeteria for catering Student for practical lessons, and knitting project for knitting student.
