‎‎The Pokot Professionals Association has issued a formal demand to the Teachers Service Commission in West Pokot County for immediate publication of P1 Primary Teachers merit lists across all six sub counties.

‎In our statement, we emphasized that transparency and accountability are constitutional obligations, citing Articles 10, 232, and 35 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010. We insist that disclosure of scores, rankings, and selection criteria is essential to safeguard fairness and public trust in the recruitment process.

‎We have given the Teachers Service Commission seven days to comply. Failure to do so will compel us to escalate the matter through oversight bodies, public interest litigation, and civic engagement.

‎This is about justice, equity, and the integrity of public service. We reaffirm our commitment to advancing Pokot interests and ensuring fair opportunities in education.

Directive:

We shall establish physical data collection desks, preferably in a centralized location such as Kapenguria, to ensure efficiency and accessibility for all concerned.

However, we remain uncertain about the level of cooperation we might receive from the previous University, given their prior interest in undertaking a similar initiative.

In the event of non-cooperation, and after we have successfully collected the necessary data, we, as professionals, shall collectively engage with that very University to seek their support in facilitating the smooth transfer of the affected students.

These students were forcibly deferred due to circumstances beyond their control, and it is only fair that we stand in solidarity to ensure justice and continuity in their academic journey.

Pokot professionals have held a consultative meeting in Nairobi to advance the establishment of Kapenguria University College, a major development for higher education in West Pokot.

The institution will be hosted at the former Kisii University campus in Keringet and will operate under the University of Nairobi (UoN). The official opening is scheduled for January 2026, marking a significant step in expanding access to university education for the region.

The meeting brought together representatives from UoN, among them Professor Susan Chepkonga, Chair of the Department of Educational Management, Policy and Curriculum Studies, and Professor Anne Assey, Chair of the Department of Educational Studies. They were joined by a broad network of Pokot professionals committed to steering the initiative.

The project fulfills a pledge by West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin to revive the Keringet university plan, allowing local students to pursue quality and affordable higher education closer to home.

Kapenguria University College is expected to boost human capital, drive innovation and research, and support socio-economic growth in the county.

Women from the Pokot and Marakwet communities have come together to form a group known as Pokot Marakwet Women for Peace (POMA), with the goal of promoting peace among the two communities. Priscah Limatuya, a member of the group, has urged residents to surrender illegal fi****ms in their possession, saying the weapons are not only a threat to the safety of neighboring communities but also endanger their own lives and those of their families.

Congratulations Ruth Chepkemoi Ptiamor from st Elizabeth Girls Murpus for winning an award in writing an essay on elimination of Child Labour and being feted by non other than the Honourable Chief Justice Martha Koome. This is a rare and distinguished achievement by Chepkemoi who is a student in a rural School. It is also a demonstration that excellence can be achieved even in the remotest of places. I wish to extend my appreciation to the school management led by Madam Principal Caro Menach for nurturing this young girl.

This is the University of Ghana.

We invite you to envision a transformative future for higher education in West Pokot, one rooted in dignity, accessibility, and world-class design.

Among the options available, Chewoyet High School land, along with the adjacent forestry area, stands out as the most strategic and appropriate location for the proposed Kapenguria University.

This site offers more than just space, it carries historical significance, centrality, and a symbolic connection to the educational journey of many Pokot professionals.

Its proximity to existing infrastructure, serene environment, and potential for expansive landscaping make it ideal for a modern university campus that reflects global standards while remaining deeply grounded in local identity.

Choosing Chewoyet is not just a logistical decision, it’s a statement of intent. It signals our commitment to reclaiming and elevating our narrative, to building an institution that serves generations, and to anchoring development in a place that already holds deep meaning for our community.

Let’s rally behind a vision that is bold, practical, and rooted in legacy. Chewoyet is not just available, it is appropriate, symbolic, and ready to host the future.
