There is no working market in Turkana East that is a matter of fact. !!!
Look at the one in Kapedo: it is not yet operational, and many people are wondering what exactly it will be used for.
As people say, hakuna mtu ataenda hapo hata aweke kabeji zake.
The market in Katilia faces a similar challenge, with residents still preferring and using the old market instead of the newly built one.
In Lokori, there is also nothing operational; it remains just a structure standing. To many, it looks more like a changing room for 90 boys football pich than a functioning market.
These idle and non-operational market projects raise serious questions about public resource utilization.
It appears that someone may be benefiting from these white-elephant projects while communities continue to lack facilities that truly meet their needs.
Why not prioritize and specialize in building livestock auction markets, which are more suitable and beneficial to our pastoralist Turkana communities?
Such investments would directly support local livelihoods, enhance trade, and create meaningful economic opportunities for the people.
