Supporting Caregivers, Transforming Lives

On 22 July 2026, at Path of Hope CBO, we conducted another therapeutic exercise session for caregivers supporting children with disabilities in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Beyond teaching therapeutic techniques that improve mobility, independence, and well-being, these sessions provide something equally important: hope. Caregivers gain confidence, share experiences, reduce feelings of isolation and burnout, and learn how to better support their children at home.
When a caregiver is empowered, a child is given a greater opportunity to thrive, grow, and reach their full potential.
At Path of Hope CBO, we believe that disability inclusion begins with strengthening families and communities. We invite donors, partners, foundations, rehabilitation professionals, and organizations to join us in expanding access to rehabilitation services, psychosocial support, and inclusive opportunities for children with disabilities.

The impact of education goes beyond the classroom
The academic journey of Nakiranda Anisha, a refugee student from Kakuma Refugee Camp, who transformed her academic journey through the Smiley Tutor/Education in Suitcase initiative. She had access to online learning resources, was connected, and received a tablet as a SmileyCoin, which helped her to achieve good results in Mathematics, outstanding results in multiple subjects, and completed secondary school successfully.
Her story is a testament to the fact that with the proper tools and opportunities, refugee students can obtain extraordinary results.

We are pleased to report that the Smiley Chicken Project (part of the Smiley Charity Program) is making great progress. This project is not only expanding but also developing into a practical learning center where students are learning invaluable hands-on skills in poultry rearing, feeding, poultry health management, poultry hygiene, record keeping and basic agribusiness.
Many of these young learners are participating in their first income-generating agricultural activity. They are learning to be confident, responsible, work in teams and entrepreneurial through their everyday engagement, which may enable them to establish their own livelihoods in the future.
Already the project has proven to be a life-changing experience for people by:
*Improving food security by raising chickens and eggs production.
*Building opportunities for youth economic growth and self-reliance.
*Familiarizing students with modern and sustainable agriculture practices.
With additional support, we can:
*Increase the size of the poultry houses.
*Increase the number of broiler and layer chickens.
*Ensure quality of feed and veterinary services.
*Reach more students annually.
We welcome your support to help scale this impactful program through donation, philanthropy and development partnerships. Investing in the Smiley Chicken Project is investing in education, livelihoods, food security and youth in displacement.

Empowering Young Minds Through Digital Learning

We are deeply grateful to announce the arrival of another batch of 44 tablets and 16 laptops through the Smiley Charity Project. This generous support marks another important milestone in our shared mission to expand access to quality education for refugee and host community learners.
These digital devices will be distributed across our four newly established learning centres: , , , and .
Through these centres, students will strengthen their mathematics skills by working on curriculum-aligned maths drills designed to support the Kenyan education system. Our goal is to equip learners with the knowledge, confidence, and digital skills they need to excel and prepare for higher education.
Every tablet and every laptop represents more than technology, it represents hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for young people whose determination to learn continues to inspire us every day.

All women and young people have the right to be safe. All voices need to be heard.
Last week, Path of Hope facilitated a Community Dialogue Forum with single mothers and teenager girls, that openly and courageously discussed Gender Based Violence and how it affects their lives.
The participants were equipped with information on:
· The different forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
· How survivors are supported in the community through referral processes.
· The concept of reporting mechanisms and how to use them.
We were honored to host , whose contribution was powerful enough to take the session even further, giving the participants the instrument to use their voice in Radio session and Drama, to transform their personal experiences into community awareness.
No body is safe in silence. If a mother is aware of her rights, she is an educator of her children. A teen that finds her voice changes her generation.

Path of Hope CBO, we celebrated the World Refugee Day on 20th June 2026 in the most impactful manner. we celebrated our students' graduations from our Tailoring & Dressmaking Training Program and our Caregiving Course Training Program.
This was not ordinary graduation. This is a statement that refugees can and will strive towards self-reliance and economic independence.
Each and every graduate who walked across that threshold had a few months of hard work, dedication, and faith in a better future in their hearts. They were students when they arrived. They departed as professional, business and community leaders.
Our Tailoring & Dressmaking students now have the opportunity to join the fashion and design industry and start their own businesses — to create income, to create opportunity and to create hope.
Our Caregiving Course graduates now have professional knowledge and skills that enable them to enter the healthcare sector and provide dignified, compassionate care to the elderly and persons with disabilities, literally changing lives, one person at a time.
To each and every graduate, you are a living example that refugee camp is not the end of the story. It is here that your story really started. We are continually proud of you, every one of you!

🕊️ WORLD REFUGEE DAY 2026
Solidarity with refugees: "until everyone is safe".

Today is the day for pausing, reflecting and celebrating.
We honor each refugee who gets out of bed and decides to move forward.
In fact, the women that come to Path of Hope CBO have been seen by us coming in empty handed and ending up as fashion entrepreneurs. Once an invisible young man, now you're a healthcare champion for the elderly and disabled.
These are not insignificant tales. These are revolutions.
Refugees are not defined by what they have lost, but by what they are able to become.
Refugees don't need pity, They don't need dependency. They need solidarity. Opportunity. And belief.
At Path of Hope, we accompany travelers who are refugees, until they don't need anyone's companionship anymore.

We were so privileged to host Mr Robert Stefansson for one whole week, from 26/05 to 01/06/2026 in Kakuma Refugee Camp where he interned with us and participated in the Smiley Tutor, Smiley Trees and Smiley Chicken projects.
Mr. Robert, on his visit, was able to tour all our centers in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Settlement, and interact with our smiley guides and learners. The team and learners were reminded of the Smiley Charity programs by his presence, which provided a boost of encouragement and hope for the team.
This encounter reinforced our conviction that students can be meaningfully supported in their career pathway and faculty orientation in university with holistic programs such as Smiley Tutor, Smiley Trees and Smiley Chicken.
Thank you for the exchange, learning and inspiration we shared during the visit here in Kakuma.
