o become social entrepreneurs/ job creators. Congo thousands of people are forced to leave their home countries in search of peace and safety. Today, there are more than 70.8 million forcibly displaced people around the world, and over 496,649 refugees have settled in Kenya. Kakuma refugee camp itself hosts over 200,000 refugees and Kalobeyei has around more than 40.000 residents (mostly from South Sudan, Somalian, Congolese, Ugandan, and Burundian ). And already existing 83% of youth unemployed make the situation nearly impossible for refugee youths to get job opportunities in Kenya. The challenges most youths are facing is due to lack of self-awareness including language barrier, connectivity and a complete lack of sustainable opportunities. Kalobeyei and Kakuma refugee camp located in the western part of Kenya in Turkana west. It is the second-largest camp in Kenya. The camp is a home of over 200,000 refugees from 17 different African countries, mainly come from South Soudan, Somalia, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and many more. In the camp, young refugee, they do not have what to do, and most of them consider football, playing card, others spend their day in the movies show as their unique occupation. All these are, because of lack of opportunities, closed mindset, lack of entrepreneurship skill which bring to them to lose hope of a better future and end up to involve themselves in drug abuse in order to release their mind, crimes, conflicts among themselves, early pregnancies and others commit themselves to su***de. The Global Innovation Valley team believes that refugees and marginalized youth have enormous drive to be able to sustain themselves, generate income and create a dignified life by themselves, but they are seen as burden in different communities because they are not given chances to use their talents or skills to sustain themselves and contribute to communities they live in. As a result many start to wait for resettlement to other countries, of which the chances are very slim and if it get to some people it is still kind the same because it is only shifting people from a country to another but with the same mindset and challenges. The question is how could we support these refugees to become self sustainable and self relient? Today is very hard for National to get a job, but it is even harder for vulnerable displaced people like refugees. The Global Innovation Valley (GIV) is a refugee initiative that seeks to fill this gap and to allow refugees and marginalized youth from the host communities to unleash their potential. We educate refugees, school drop-outs and marginalized youth through a freesponsible and self-managed educational model to discover their purpose and create social enterprises which create jobs opportunities enhance reducing unemployment rates in Kenya. And since we are visioning a world where refugees and disadvantaged youths are self-sustainable and economic actors who fully contribute to their communities. We are supporting them to discover and nurture their talents and goals and help them to create social enterprises. We give them the digital skills that will allow them to design digital solutions that create jobs for themselves and their communities. They become change-makers by turning challenges into opportunities.
