🌍 A MESSAGE TO ASPIRING LEADERS AND THE PEOPLE OF TURKANA COUNTY 🇰🇪
Leadership in Turkana County is not about titles or personal glory; it is a sacred duty to serve, uplift, and transform lives. For too long, our communities have suffered despite having leaders, and this is a call for reflection and action. One of the greatest challenges is youth unemployment—thousands of talented young people have skills and education but no opportunities to work, start businesses, or contribute meaningfully. As an African proverb says, “The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.” Leaders must empower the youth, for they are the roots of our county’s future.
Access to clean water and infrastructure remains critical, as many families walk long distances for water and roads isolate communities from schools, hospitals, and markets. Wisdom reminds us, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Healthcare and education also need urgent attention; clinics lack medicine and staff, while schools are overcrowded. “Health is wealth, but knowledge is power.” Leaders must invest in both.
As elections approach in Turkana West, the senatorial race includes Ekalale Iimoni, Ekusi Lore, my cousin Thomas Kiyong’a, and my brother Cosperstone Juma. Aspiring leaders must remember: “A leader who listens to the people will never lose the path of justice” and “A tree is known for its fruits.” Citizens, your voice is your power—demand leaders who serve with integrity, empower youth, improve services, and bring development. Together, we can turn hardship into hope and dreams into reality.
