Real change emerges when diverse stakeholders unite around a shared vision.
Through the collective efforts of education partners, government institutions, mentors, community leaders, donors , and dedicated well-wishers, Top Girl Scholarship beneficiaries are thriving.
Each stakeholder plays a vital, interconnected role: one ensures access to school, while others provide mentorship, health support, opportunities, and nurturing environments that foster holistic growth.
Education, when supported across sectors, is one of the most powerful levers for equity, resilience, and long-term well-being. Evidence shows that girls’ education, strengthened by such partnerships reduces poverty cycles, significantly improves health outcomes, delays early marriage, and builds stronger communities.
As a result, more girls are overcoming systemic barriers, remaining focused on their studies, and confidently shaping brighter futures.

Our sincere gratitude goes to Kidshare , Women pillar Alliance-WOPA , Mumias East and West Community Development Fund and other individual donors for their incredible support and investment in empowering girls through education and opportunity! Your commitment is truly creating sustainable, evidence-based impact. 🙏

Menstruation is natural, but for many schoolgirls especially vulnerable girls it becomes a serious barrier to education, health, and dignity. Sometimes they lack sanitary towels but other times it’s inadequate access to clean water and good sanitation that makes good hygiene around periods a challenge.
In rural areas, period poverty affects over 65% of girls. A pack of pads costs averagely KSh 80, which many families can’t afford. Girls often use old clothes , blankets, or other improvised methods , leading to discomfort, leaks, and infections. Many miss 3–7 days of school every month due to shame, pain, or lack of products. Rural schools frequently lack private changing spaces, clean water, or proper toilets, however stigma keeps the period struggles concealed.

Simple healthy habits and access to water and good sanitation make a real difference: washing hands before and after changing products, changing pads every few hours, cleaning menstrual cups properly, keeping the v***a clean with just water, wearing breathable clothes, staying hydrated, and tracking the menstrual cycle. These steps reduce infections, build confidence, and help girls stay in school.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, let’s work together to create a period friendly world.🩸

Were you a schoolgirl in rural Kenya, and what was it like for you around your period?

Yesterday, Top Girl in partnership with Women pillar Alliance-WOPA held an impactful mentorship session with 120 enthusiastic learners at Buchirinya Primary and Junior School. The topic was Healthy Living and Reproductive Health a crucial conversation as adolescents grow.

We were able to donate sanitary pads to the girls and pens to the boys. These small contributions help protect dignity and keep learners focused on their studies.
A major highlight was emphasizing the importance of male involvement in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Menstrual Education. Menstrual practices are often surrounded by deep-rooted taboos and socio-cultural restrictions, which leave many adolescent girls without access to accurate scientific information. This knowledge gap frequently results in adverse health outcomes. Proper menstrual hygiene and correct
understanding can protect girls from unnecessary suffering and unsafe practices.

Boys and men play a critical role in breaking stigma, supporting girls, and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment. When boys understand menstrual health, they become strong allies who help reduce period shaming and enable girls to stay in school with confidence.
Moving away from gender-segregated education is essential in fostering this shared understanding.
This work directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-being by ensuring access to reproductive health information and services, SDG 4 on Quality Education by removing barriers like menstrual hygiene challenges so every child can learn, and SDG 5 on Gender Equality by promoting shared responsibility between boys and girls.

Investing in the sexual and reproductive health of both boys and girls today builds healthier, more responsible, and compassionate communities tomorrow.

The Egg and Spoon Challenge taught us something bigger than balance, it taught us how to carry our dreams without dropping them. Meet these incredible Top Girls: Mercy, now thriving in college, and Jentrix, soon joining university. Long before their academic milestones, they were already practicing one of life’s most important skills: staying focused, steady, and determined even when things felt shaky. Life as a young woman can feel exactly like this race.
You are balancing:
📚 Academics
🧠 Mental health
👨‍👩‍👧 Family expectations
💭 Personal dreams
👭 Social life
Sometimes one small wobble can make it feel like everything is about to fall apart.

You do not need to be perfect. You only need to keep moving.
Move with purpose. Breathe through the pressure. Ask for help when you need it. Protect your peace while pursuing your goals.
This simple challenge reminds us to:
✨ Stay focused on your “why”
✨ Keep going after setbacks
✨ Celebrate every small win
✨ Surround yourself with people who cheer you on.

To every girl balancing books, emotions, ambition, and self-care: You are stronger than you know, and you are doing better than you think.
Your future self is already thanking you.

What are you working hardest to balance right now?

🧠 Why Empowering Girls Is a Public Health Strategy.

When people talk about girls’ empowerment, they often focus on leadership, confidence, and education. All of these matter.
But empowering girls is also one of the most powerful public health interventions we have.

When a girl is supported to stay in school, understand her health, and make informed decisions about her future, the impact reaches far beyond her own life.
She is more likely to:
✅ Delay early marriage and teenage pregnancy
✅ Access sexual and reproductive health information and services
✅ Complete her education
✅ Earn an income
✅ Raise healthier children
✅ Strengthen her family and community

Empowering girls helps break the cycle of poverty, poor health, and inequality.
At the core of our work is a simple but powerful belief: when girls are given the opportunity to thrive, they become catalysts for healthier families, stronger communities, and lasting social change.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are deeply interconnected, and girls sit at the centre of that connection.
By empowering girls, we accelerate progress toward:
💡 SDG 1: No Poverty
💡 SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
💡 SDG 4: Quality Education
💡 SDG 5: Gender Equality
💡 SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
💡 SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
💡 SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

Supporting one girl can influence an entire family, transform a community, and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable world.
Investing in girls is not only the right thing to do, it is one of the smartest strategies for achieving sustainable development.
When girls thrive, communities thrive. When communities invest in girls, they invest in a healthier future for everyone.
